I've been reading through this thread for 24 hours and I really cannot believe what some of you are saying.
You are breaking this argument down to "wheather or not they should have fun or if they have earned it"...a resounding YES to both of those statements, however, every single one of you has failed to mention any other issues with going to Vegas before your biggest division game of the year.
Upside:
- All of us(me included) think the guys should have a day to relax...have some fun...etc.
Downside:
- I bet you all $500 that those pictures are floating around the Giants locker room showing them what the Cowboys are doing before their big game. The people that have played football know how bad you want to beat perceived cockiness. We are not gonna see the cockiness because we are all Cowboys fans, but I bet every single one of you would see it if the Giants were caught partying in Vegas at 8-3 and we were 6-4.
- Stuff happens in clubs...especially when famous people are there. In the past two weeks NFL players have gotten into big trouble for just being at a club. Antonio Cromartie allegedly threw a bottle and Jon Beason was arrested for assaulting someone. Both players say nothing happened at all. The NFL is all over it....both situations. People can and will lie on NFL players...or attack one like Ken Hamlin or even Darrent Williams who was killed. Especially in Vegas! How many stories have we heard about NFL players there?
- PR nightmare - Those images sent out the exact opposite image that we are trying to uphold. Of course we are gonna back them but no one should have seen those pics. We should be partying without cameras in the room. Vegas is the absolute worse place for that... your pic will be twittered and facebooked in a literal second.
- Is it different when Choice went? Of course it is! First of all, only people in Texas and Georgia even know what Choice looks like. Secondly, if we lose Choice then we are still ok even if he is my favorite RB on the team. If a fight broke out or something(like it always does in clubs) we stand to lose our entire productive passing game with Romo and Austin.
It was a STUPID STUPID move and we back them with infantile arguments that don't fit the situation.
Since I have been blogging about the Cowboys on the internet back in'05, I have noticed what a problem the fans have become. We get too high after something good happens and way too low when something bad happens. This is another case where all of you want Wade to be a stronger leader but will back him up when they obviously dropped the ball in this situation. If they didn't, the PR people would not have had to step in and fix it. It may be stupid but it's reality.
We were so lucky that nothing happened...let's just hope it's dead in the water now.
Notice I used none of the stupid arguments here.
No - "They do need to relax"
No - "It's not effecting their preparation"
No - "If they lose...it's NOT gonna be due to Vegas partying"
- All are stupid and do not need to be discussed.
BTW...I'm the idiot that has a problem with this.
