Can I join? Shaping up to be an interesting season. Really anxious to see what happens once pre season is over.

All I know is I am definitely done with any semblance of an idea which places Nate Livings as the starting LG. Leary is the man and should be the man from here on out. Doesn't hurt that he played well tonight, and even though it's just the first pre-season game and they weren't playing against All-pros, pretty sure Soliai and Wake were out there that first series and pretty sure we ran the ball well that first series (esp to the left side), so I think the potential is there and will only get better as time goes on.

Im hoping to see a starting O-Line as such: LT-Tron LG- Leary C- Frederick RG- Bernadeau RT- Free. Backups will be Parnell, Costa, Arkin, and most likely Nate Livings simply due to the cap hit we would take if we cut him. Makes no sense to release him if it's gonna cost us 1.7 mil against the cap, might as well stock him as depth even though I really don't like keeping a guy for Monetary reasons esp when I don't see him being nearly as "effective" as he was last season with those shaky knees...

Kowalski gets the boot unfortunately; the guy is just too fragile and his performance in the Scrimmage made it seem like he might not be the guy we all thought he was. I would be happy to see Killer get a roster spot over Livings though so hopefully JG deems Killer's youth and overall gritty, tough mentality more valuable than Livings contract...

Are people gonna give Jerry credit for this? Wasn't Jerry the one pushing for and promoting Leary hardcore?

Well, since I've been raving about him over in the Offensive Line thread, sign me up. I hadn't seen him actually play at all until tonight (if he played last preseason, I missed it entirely). I'm officially impressed. I don't see him giving back that starting job anytime soon.

Our drafting has been solid since 2010. Not sure you can completely write that off to "luck."

Why not? Look at the period of 1996-2001. Jerruh had complete control back then. So that more supports the point that his championing of Leary is luck more than anything else.

Not sure what the past has to do with the present. Most former coaches are on record that Jerry is more of a facilitator than anything, so it's obvious that we draft better with better "facilitators" (Garrett and Parcells v. Wade and Switzer). Either way, it's kind of tiring to use Jerry as a scapegoat for all our woes.

I really liked what I saw against the Dolphins. I trust Callahan's assessment of him. But, it was only 1 game and a first game of preseason as well. I'll call it 'guarded optimism.'

I have been on the wagon since the 2012 draft. I wanted them to draft him, so I was stoked when they signed him as a UFA. He's a good football player.

As I've said in other threads, I honestly believe Leary will set the left side of the line for the foreseeable future. He has all the physical tools needed, I've just been waiting for it to "click" with him. For comparison sake, here are his combine numbers as compared to Warmack's and Cooper's:

Leary
Combine Invite: Yes
Height:
6027
Weight: 315
40 Yrd Dash: 5.23
20 Yrd Dash: 3.04
10 Yrd Dash: 1.83 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 30
Vertical Jump: 29
Broad Jump: 08'08"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.91
3-Cone Drill: 7.87
Invited to 2012 NFL Combine as OT

Warmack
Combine Invite: Yes
Height:
6020
Weight: 317
40 Yrd Dash: 5.49
20 Yrd Dash: 3.20
10 Yrd Dash: 1.90 225 Lb. Bench Reps:
Vertical Jump:
Broad Jump:
09'02"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 5.01 (pro day)
3-Cone Drill: 7.93 (pro day)
No full workout, quad/No bench, finger

Cooper
Combine Invite: Yes
Height:
6021
Weight: 311
40 Yrd Dash: 5.06
20 Yrd Dash: 2.89
10 Yrd Dash: 1.72 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 35
Vertical Jump: 27
Broad Jump: 09'00"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.84
3-Cone Drill: 7.78

Man, I was on his bandwagon when we signed him as UDFA last year. Him and Hamilton, actually. But unfortunately Hamilton is no longer here. If it wasn't for injury's Leary would've been projected as 4th rounder, I believe.

I was just going to say the same thing. If Leary turns out to be a good, steady, serviceable player, Jerry needs to be given some props. He obviously did take some action to fix the line last year. If it turns out Leary IS a good player then they did SOMETHING right last year, even though it may not pay off until this year.

They spent a first rounder on Smith and Frederick, and have developed Leary in house. That is three home grown players who we have spent resources on and developed. We invested resources on Livings and Berny .... but both of them have been injured, so it is hard to tell if the Cowboys' evaluation on those two players was good and they just had injury problems, or we guessed wrong and we would have whiffed even if they were not injured. Either scenario is plausible.

Obviously everyone wants him to succeed but how is there a bandwagon after one preseason game? Or are you just asking who else wants Ronald Leary to be good? Ooooh, ME ME ME!!!!!!
