I know this may sound dumb, but if Larry Allen is a free agent, could he be a good backup, and primarly used for the lockerroom to tutor the offensive line in what it takes for playoffs, and maybe he could help a little in playoffs,

what do you guys think?

I don't think he would make a good back up. He never seemed like a very talkative guy, so I don't know if he would share his knowledge or be good at giving tips to guys. He is no longer the hard worker he was when he was younger, so he really could not lead by example or be trusted to be prepared enough to step in if someone did get injured. Some guys are better as starters than they are as back ups. At this point, Allen may not be, either.

i know san fran wants him to start, but he has history with the cowboys

i forgot who said it, but that the great offensive line play started with erik williams, whom passed the torch over to larry allen, when he left he passed the torch over to flozell adams, and we all see how that worked out

anyway, the media guy said that larry allen got the guys to play in december, stay in shape and for the playoffs;

so i was thinking, since larry allen did want to retire, he might be willing to take a back seat or maybe spell kosier on offensive line some,

main point though he would in my mind be a great influence for flozell and possibly motivating the other offensive linemen and seeing that they stay in shape come december and january,

in other words, be like a player coach helping hudson houck, etc,

A big part of the reason Allen signed with SF is because that is where he is from. Sonoma State, which is where I believe Allen played College ball is only about an hour from San Francisco. He went to HS in Napa. It would seem to me that if he wanted to play another year, it would be much more convenient for him to do so in San Francisco. JMO.
