He's the only American athlete at these Olympics I hate. Vonn is an annoying diva but she's cute so she gets a pass.

Apolo Anton Hohmo is just annoying.

Liar.

Am I the only one tired of this whole event? IMO they've pumped up this newish event (at least here in the US) because Ohno is a star they can market.

I miss the old school speed skating a la Eric Heiden. It seems like it was never on when I turned on the Olympics this year.

No, there is still long track speed skating and no events have been eliminated there. Short-track goes back to the 1992 Olympics, I think.

In terms of marketing, I don't know why you'd push Ohno over Davis (who is American) who is one of the world's greatest long track speed skaters.

Maybe Ohno can now copy Phil Jackson and retire the soul patch, too.

Oh, I know it's still around. It's just that here in the US, it seemed like NBC was constantly pimping the short track stuff, while one had to seek out the long track to even know it existed.

As to why they'd tout Ohno so much more, I'm agreeing with you. I guess they saw Ohno as more of a "star"... Maybe it's the past medals, or the crashing and increased level of controversy in his events, or something. Probably the latter the way they present things now.

I just think the long track is great stuff. I'm not a winter guy, but those guys are incredible athletes. They probably deal with as much lactic acid as anyone.

Face it, without me, you would all just have to find another lightning rod.

I unite you in hatred. I do my job.

short track is more exciting than long track. As for Ohno being pimped more, Davis' gruff personality might have something to do with it. He is not a good teammate.

Ohno also knows how to market himself, he was on Dancing with the Stars and you are right, the way controversy follows him around, one knows something odd will happen in one of his races.

Right, I'm saying I don't give a crap about their personalities or Dancing with the Stars. It's part of the feminization of the presentation of the Olympics and sports in general the last decade or so to try to find a dramatic storyline in the life of every athlete. Just show the freaking sport already without making everything into a soap opera.

perhaps but you are in the minority on that one, people love those human interest stories, like the Canadian with the inspirational older brother with cerebral palsy who gave him crap in 2006 when the athlete was down after failing in Turin telling him, why are you mad you were at the Olympics which was your goal.

Even NFL has those kind of stories now, the guy whose mom died and he raised the siblings while at university and who now builds homes for single mothers, ones whose wives have cancer etc

People love that stuff.
