In FA we need a lot.. a great run stuffing DT and LB, the best playmaking safety we can find, a talented RB to pair with a draft pick and a great #2 WR to pair with Lamb and Turpin.
There is plenty of Cap space to add major depth on top of this. If Jerry doesn't pull the trigger, he'll face the worst media scrutiny of his life. It will make 2024 look weak.

I've been watching this lunatic operate since 1989, he manages through the media hype and he was really embarrassed this year. I will be shocked if we're not major players in FA
That’s actually a good point. I’m not sure how much longer he can sell status quo. There’s no mega coach coming that gonna pump up the fan base.

He is going to have to dive in a little. It’s just shameful that didn’t happen a couple of years ago when the roster was better. Could have probably made a deeper run.

I don’t know though. I really can’t go beyond saying I’ll believe it when I see it. Anger is beginning to settle into apathy for me.

So they would have about 30m used up by the bumps and rooks. Martin Cooks Dlaw eat up the 20 rollover. That would leave you with 65m of the 100 but remember if they extend and resign some players thats gonna eat into that like tyler smith who shd get 20 and osa who will get 12-16 on the open market plus when bland and fergy come due. Then as they keep reupping these guys with the void yr contract or even without it, its gonna creat huge dead hits. Like Dak. If we reup him every year i bet it creates s 80m dead cap hit at the end. Now they r playing with hige $$’s doing these voided contracts. If Dak lamb or dpar get a career ending injury down the line we are screwed! Especially Dak. Either way with him we will be looking at a 80m dead cap hit from voided $$ when his contract is up! they gotta think this through. No one is thinking about this. Do you want to let Tyler Smith go in a few years or Osa this offseason? There are others too. Signing Dak is hoing to be a huge albatross for years to come. They should have waited! They could have had his brother Kirk prescott for 20 a year! Buyer Beware!

Creating cap room through restructuring is like trading away future draft picks. It restricts the team's options in the future.

I'm sure everyone realizes that restructuring doesn't mean players volunteer to make less money. Also, the team isn't saving money in the long run. They are shifting part of the salary to the future, sometimes in the form of voidable years.

This means that some players will get paid at a time when they are no longer on the team. Besides his 60 million dollars that Dak gets as a result of his new contract, the Cowboys have to pay him for his voidable years on the previous contract.

Last season, the Cowboys paid out over 8 million to La'el Collins despite the fact that he left the Cowboys after the 2021 season.

This season, the Cowboys paid out a combined 16 million to Zeke Elliot, Michael Gallup, and Tyron Smith for previous contracts.

great summary. so this kind of lays it, salary cap and salaries aren't an issue. if we have 43 players under contract for total of 263M, we are in great shape to not even make a change and sign 10 players and still be under the cap.

I like the idea of cutting steele. although I doubt, because Jerry doesn't like to let players go early and pay twice for the same position. he hates that type of dead cap, so the incompetence at RT will most probably continue.

and couple of moves and we should have around 65M on the cap as I have heard some say. this should allow us to sign 2, 3 premium FAs, but will we? probably not. even not doing Dak's contract redo and just going with the 90M on the cap, we can still have about 30M on the cap which should allow us to sign a couple of premium FAs.

so no excuses, but I am sure Jerry has more excuses in his pocket he is going to throw out there.
It may say 40 guys under contract but some of those are practice squad guys. They’ll need to fill about 20 active roster spots.

Then who would play qb?
They should have signed him earlier, Laurence money or something, not the highest paid QB ever. They KNEW they needed to get it done……waited stupidly, ended up over paying, like they have before.

Yep, and they are on thin ice with a qb that can't run.
