A way for Adam Jones to return

Todd Archer E-mail News tips
When I first heard about Michael Irvin's reality show, I thought it was for a "tryout" at the veteran mini-camp, but when I found out it was for the 80th spot to go to training camp, I started to shake my head.

Why do this? You have a team coming off a stunning failure in 2008, a coach on the hottest of seats, a team with many questions, fighting the perception - real or otherwise - that everything is a circus, and you open up yourself to something like this?

But then I thought about Adam Jones' wry smile when he said he could be back in Dallas on that CBS interview a few weeks ago. Well, now I know how it happens: He becomes a player in Irvin's show, wins the deal and is with the Cowboys in San Antonio. All for the veteran minimum.

Farfetched? Absolutely. Impossible? Only if the recently opened investigation to the Club Blaze shooting leads to a suspension.

Just a few more thoughts on this deal:

**Is this even allowable by the league? I have an e-mail in to find out.
** What happens if the guy gets hurt on the first day of training camp and is out for the year? The Cowboys are on the hook for at least a split salary for the year, which will eat up at least some cap space.
**What happens if the guy hurts somebody else? How would it look if, say, a cornerback wins the contest and takes out Roy Williams (the receiver) during one-on-one drills by mistake?
**He will not be in your off-season conditioning program. He won't take part in the organized team activities. He won't know the offense or defense. How in the heck would he have a chance to make it?

We are debating your blog entry and Pacman trying to get into the mix for the Irvin reality show.

Were your comments 'tongue in cheek'?

For some reason one guy didn't get it.

One other thing ... Archer raises an interesting point about whether this is OK with the NFL.

I wonder if the Cowboys are allowed to have "exclusivity" with the winner of this show? I mean, isn't he technically a free agent? I know it's almost impossible, but let's say a true stud emerges from this show and some other teams want him. I would imagine the NFL is going to step in and say the "winner" is able to sign anywhere and can't just be automatically placed onto our roster.

Not his reporting as much as pointing out the fact that he is a certifiable moron...

Believe me I'm one of the guys here that is most against moronic journalists (most of them seem to be), but there wasn't that much wrong with that article.

However, he says "What if he (the guy who wins the 80th spot) injures someone? Yeah? And? Terence Newman could accidently hurt someone. Just cuz the guy who does the injuring doesn't make the injury he causes any more or less significant. Injuries happen.

My only problem with having some winner of a reality show getting a shot with the cowboys is "what if he makes the team"? Would it be punishment for making fun of the eagles of the late 70's cuz they were so freakin' horrible that a 30 year old bar tender made the roster?

What if he does, like you said...Injuries happen. What if one of the draft picks or other undrafted FAs come in and injure someone? What if it was say a person that had NO chance at all to make the team...like an extra kicker that is just brought in so Folk does not wear his leg out...and said kicker accidentally kicks someone in the eye during a block attempt. Would it be any different...again accidents and injuries happen.

If one of the guys makes the team it means he was hungrier and better than one of the other rookies (whether drafted or undrafted) and that means you got someone that beat out another for ST. Personally if they are better they should beat out someone else that is not. Again it means we got the best player for the position (again a STer). I don't care if it is deemed a punishment because of making fun of a philly STer.

Bottom line, if you get someone that actually makes the final team, then I would say they earned it and beat out other players...and I have no problem with that because at the end of the day he would have probably just knocked off another undrafted FA from the team.

Now as far as the OP always whining about the media...

That's just stupid...

Never whined about them, just point out that they are lying, pathetic failed journalists who prostitute themselves and the truth for a few more readers or a few more rating points.

I see your point. Like all the whining about TO being a "distraction" and bad for the locker room.

Right?

Of course..

Losing tends to do that... Right now the whine du jour tends to be media and TO.

And as much as there is alot to be optimistic about with this team, there's just as much to look at note the need for improvement.

Outstanding.

Whenever those horrible media types start printing their "lies", it is simply amazing how many people turn into tearful Chris Crockers and start demanding the "reveal their sources!"

If that is not whining...calling them lying, patetic failed journalist and prostitutes I would love....nevermind. Just a waste of time.

Agreed. It's a bizarre concept to me (the tryout thing). It's fine to be critical of the team, just don't be a clown like Galloway or JFE when you do it.
