Archer - Observations from practice 1

lol, maybe he watched another 22 minutes.

Check out that video I linked. It’s a worthwhile use of your time. See a lot of players getting reps.

Sanders had a decent carry or two. Mafah had one.

Turpin had the best carry of the drill. Man, he’s fast and elusive

I thought Deuce looked to be the worst because he was getting tagged at the line or behind the line every time.

Granted, he kept running all the way down the field, like they do in these drills, but he was getting touched a couple of times every carry before he got out into open space which is usually after the defense has “considered him tackled”
Vaughn had one pretty nice run from what I saw. He bounced it outside and got around the edge. Probably would have gotten 8 to 10 yards. Turpin had the best run where he just blazed through the hole. Vaughn definitely had multiple runs where he was swallowed up at the line. Of course, several other players did, too. They were "tackled," but kept running to make the play look better than it did.

Out of the plays that I've seen on video, only the Turpin, Vaughn and one run by Mafah looked like they were truly successful. The others would have depended on broken tackles.

I think that even though he's a rookie, EZ might be more fully formed as a player than Williams. I just don't think Williams is a very smart player. I think he's emotion-driven, which can lead to stupid decisions.
I still think SW is gonna end up as a DT on passing downs. That's gonna be his ticket....to be a wrecking ball inside.

It will be interesting to see if Eberflus uses a NASCAR package. I would assume some combination of EZ, Fowler, Williams and Parsons in that case. I don't think we'd use it much unless it's a clear passing situation.

I expect Thomas and Odighizuwa to be our pass-rushing DTs in most situations.

Deuce looks like a child in the preview video on all of his carries. He’s so tiny and all the reps I saw he was contacted right at the line, although they can’t put a lick on anyone and are basically playing touch

Jayden Blue looks decent in his reps.
Blue had a real nice cut on one play to avoid a defender in the backfield.

......>>>> Sam back to Bonehead plays again. ...sheesh .. this guy

I say let Sam Williams get plenty of playing time early in the year. If he tears it up he would be a great candidate to try to trade at the deadline. Try to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick or even a running back if we’re hurting for one.

Because we don’t need a good pass rusher?

If he tears it up we should keep him lol.

Yeah, I'm for trading from positions where there is an abundance or trading players in their last year's if we're terrible otherwise. But if we're competing and he's playing well, I don't see a need to weaken a position.
I agree. And if he’s tearing it up and I’m assuming Micah is too. That’s an important strength to have.

Until the pads come on and full contact is allowed, I don't put much stock in reports of how the rb position or the front lines are doing
