Twitter: Archer: Watkins and Sprinkles Contract Details

I like these deals.

My only knock is, come next season, you're in the same boat with about 15-20 free agents.

Yah…. But part of their planning may be to get to 2023 and offload Zeke’s contract and make some long term decisions then in regards to pieces to build around for the future.

There will very likely be a new HC in the building as well… so these 1 year deals basically allow the team to tread water at a bunch of positions and (in theory) draft the BPA in April.

Kick the can down the road. SSDD

Thats true I would rather 2 year deals BUT like another person told me some that leave turn into comp picks

Payton 2023!

Payton 2023!

Not thrilled about that… He left NO in cap hell and basically has an identical record to McCarthy. In other words— I think he is overrated— although IMO he would be at least a small upgrade.

However— the biggest issue would be compensation for NO. They have his rights and will likely be looking for a decent haul of picks from the team looking to acquire Payton.

All that plus if a guy has a good year and gets a stronger offer elsewhere next year you can get draft pick comp off a guy that was salary cap neutral.
It super sucks for the first couple weeks in free agency and it is painful to have to play the 1 team going all in like the Rams are in the playoffs but outside those scenarios it is logically a good plan.
Keep building through draft and retain only key guys when they hit free agency.

It still feels like they should go all in at least once right???
All that said if they can't even win a single playoff game its tough to argue they should right now.
Welcome to the suck.

That's very affordable for Watkins who had good production last season.

Their current plan and approach has yielded nada. Zilch. Nothing.

It’s crazy that they continue to do the same thing and expect different results. Hilarious and insane even.
