Are Cowboys legit Super Bowl contenders?

All that is fine but are you saying Dallas has zero chance to be Seattle? If not and if there is no team out there you would say that about, then they are contenders.

I think that the cowboys can beat seattle again. my problem is that the seahawks are just playing great team defense right now. that crowd is going to be louder then it was in the regular season. also they won last year so they will not be surprised by how big of a playoff game it will be. this will be the first time for over half of the team.

Blah, blah, blah. No one asked if it would be easy to win the Super Bowl, only if they are legit contenders. Your first sentence is all you needed to say because if you think that then they have to be contenders.

Of course we are. We're picking up steam at the right time. I hear alot about what our opponents have, but we have some good things rolling for us as well. No doubt we're legit.

A team that features the league's leading rusher, the league's highest-rated passer, the NFL TD reception leader... a team that has won 11 football games in 15 attempts and defeated 2013-14 playoff teams the Saints, Colts, Eagles, and defending Super Bowl Champion Seahawks, a team that has won 7 of 7 contests in opposing stadiums, has won games on turf and grass, has won games on two continents, and has gone undefeated in games played versus the opposing conference?

Yes, I would say that a team with those credentials seems like a definitive Super Bowl contender to me.

But no they are not SB favorites. And I'm ok with that, this team has one of those "chances" that they make movies about someday. If this team can bring home the Lombardi it will be the single greatest chapter in Dallas Cowboys history. IMO of course.

After the past two weeks, I would say yes. Just ask yourself one question. Is there a team out there I just can't see Dallas having any chance to beat? I would say no and that makes them contenders.

Yes.

To add:

"Legit" is not the right word. Not this year. The way things are going. They have a chance. Unlike the other teams in Romo's career...

THIS TEAM has the WILL to WIN. No quit in these guys.

Are we legit contenders you say? To my thinking, as long as we compete reasonably well, we're contending.
We're fielding a group of players year that should be able to compete with anyone on one of their better days.

Vegas says we are the 5th most likely team to win the super bowl...we've already beaten Seattle...that means only gb and one afc stand in our way...
I'd say based on that, we are definitely contenders

Just to be clear, not suggesting just bc we beat sea once that it's a given we will do it again...but I am suggesting that it's a given that we can beat them bc we already did..

I didn't think the giants were, when the won their last 2 Super Bowls. In this day and age I think as long as you get to the dance you have a shot. having said that, I think our defense is a little suspect, so we are going to run the ball and win the time of possession, in order for us to have any chance.

the cowboys beat the seahawks when there defense was not full strength but now they are just dominating. then again they have not faced a great offenses in the last month. I hope we can get a chance to find out if we can beat them again. the seahawks will be looking forward I bet to beat the cowboys if they get the chance. I just wish that the cowboys could play them in dallas instead of seattle again.

What is your definition of "not at full strength"? Seems you've been reading too many Seattle fan boards. They were all out there that day.

Oh my gosh, Seattle wasn't this, Seattle wasn't that..... Seattle had beaten the "clicking on all cylinders" Broncos and pummelled the Packers before losing to the Cowboys. People make it seem like they were 0-4 going into that game.

With this Offense and especially with Romo at the helm we can win any game, will we win it? I hope so but do we have a chance? Heck yeah we have a chance.

Thats my fear, this defense has really been playing out of their minds and way above their pay grade. Just a bunch of blue collar guys that are kicking *** and taking names. Can they keep it up vs a Rogers? Really hate the thought of seeing us get exposed come playoff time as it will be the same old crap.

That's been my worry all along. But, the defense has been steadily getting better all year. Marinelli did change some things so it makes sense that the defense would improve throughout the year. We are getting more pressure on the QB which is perhaps more important than getting sacks.

I watched some nfl rewind yesterday and it is amazing how much more solid the defense is playing right now. Listening to media discuss the Lions and Green Bay both have weaknesses. If we can get out of the NFC I think we win.

Last game aside, I just don't think we have a SB caliber defense. I hope they prove me wrong though. As the the question, yes, they are.

Many people didn't think this was a SB caliber defense:
LE Tony Tolbert
LDT Russell Maryland
RDT Tony Casillas
RE Charles Haley
LOLB Ken Norton, Jr.
MLB Robert Jones
ROLB Vinson Smith
LCB Larry Brown
RCB Kevin Smith
SS Thomas Everett
FS James Washington

Was just about to post about a bunch of no name guys, other than Haley, got it done before. But wasn't going to list them. Thanks for doing that.
We all know we have the offense.
And maybe the defense is better than what people want to give credit for. Something to blame if we don't win it.

Some of us said prior to the season, that this defense needed time to gel, and to stay healthy. They stayed mostly healthy as to lose guys on IR. Yes we have quite a few. But the main ones of Lee, who McClain replaces rather darn well. Then during the season, Durant, who Hitchens is player well there too. Others on IR mostly were future players types.
So they never gelled as soon as I thought, but because of the nagging injuries during the season, but nothing long term, maybe 2 or 3 to 4 weeks at most. But these last 3 games they are coming together. Playing great, and some great game plans that they are executing like they are supposed to for the most part.

So I think they are being underrated and under appreciated. But these last 3 games, they are showing me they are capable of having a SB winning defense. Does not need to be a Seahawk or Lions type dominant, but peaking and playing close to that level at the right time. I am looking at their current level of play as opposed to the entire body of work. That is what counts, is now, not from game 1.

Couple of quick thoughts on this list:
  1. That list had four 1st round picks, one 1st pick overall, and one 2nd pick overall. They may have been no-names, but it was loaded with 1st round talent.
  2. That the first time in maybe my entire time here on CZ (maybe 5 years) that I've see anybody mention Robert Jones. Pretty amazing considering he was a starting LB on all three 90's Cowboys Superbowl winning squads. Why is that?
