Are Cowboys over invested at receiver?

Our secondary is a mess. We can’t allow opposing teams to run free . It’s not a winning formula . The Cowboys have given up 38 points in consecutive games for the first time since 1988 which was Landry’s last season when we finished 3-13.

Lamb is an awesome talent but with receivers our position of strength are we over invested while leaving other positions of weakness more vulnerable.

Who pays top 5 money to a WR1 while using their 1st pick at WR when you already have 2 starting receivers with so many weaknesses in other areas? That’s a luxury we couldn’t really afford.

Cedric Wilson’s return this season with his breakout performance Sunday scoring his first 2 TD’s of his career with 5 catches over a 100 yards is a perfect example of how you develop instead of continuing to use our highest picks in draft on key positions.

Unless we can convert one of them to our secondary we appear to have over invested in one position while leaving other critical positions of weakness vulnerable which could ultimately cost the season.

But think of how many #88 jerseys Jerry can sell.

I don't have a problem with the Lamb pick because they still got Diggs in the second round. Extending Jaylon rather than Byron was a mistake. Jerry took a chance on Jaylon after his injury and so wanted to believe he got a steal that he had to make a big deal of extending him.

I don't care how many picks Byron didn't have he could at least cover guys, which is more than I can say for the guys playing instead of him.

No. You can't over-invest at WR. The passing game matters far more than anything else in the modern NFL.

The secondary will look a lot better once the top two corners are healthy, and it's not like the resources put into WR have prevented them from getting a safety anyway.

No, we are not over invested at WR. But we are underinvested at DB.

We had Cooper and Gallup. No way you pass on CeeDee Lamb as he fell to us in the draft.
Wilson looks to be finally healthy, as well as Brown. So that is just a great position to be in. $ or the 5 were already here.

And no, there is not any DB out there to trade for, unless some team also wants to send us a high draft pick. And it will not happen.

I don't think Jerry went into this draft looking to take CeeDee, but when the best receiver in the draft, or arguably the best receiver, falls into your lap you really have to take him at that point. Would you rather he took Chaisson? Then when Diggs fell to them in the 2nd, again, it was a must. Maybe Gallimore in the 3rd round was not the best pick. Some think Jordan Elliott was a better choice - and at least he is playing for the Browns - but its too early to say.

i don't think so. wr's are prone to injury due to the nature of the position. it would have been hard to factor in the loss of two starting linebackers and no camp and little training before this season. before this season ends, we'll be happy we have so many wr's.

It's not like Dallas hasn't been trying?

Chido
Jourdan
Diggs
Robinson

Then there's the Wards, Jacksons and Westry's scattered about. Free agent acquisitions such as Worley and Savant..then Carr even.

I'm a huge Cedric Wilson fan, but I'd hold off on the "breakout game" talk until he proves that he's not another Laurent Robinson.

Yes they are. They have 5 great receivers and nothing else. It's no good.

umm our QB has 2 fumbles and 2 ints that put the defense in a hole Zeke a fumble Shultz a fumble that all contribute to poor defense ..short fields, how about 2 failed fake punts a muff at the goal line all hurt the defense..yes defense is hurting but many strange things have contributed to it along with a ton of injuries..

so no 2 rookie deals and Amari, Amari is pulling doubles and ive seen a few triple converges that are opening up the rest of the field..

Not over invested. Amari’s consistency/reliability due to health is an issue. Gallup is great, but you’re facing a contract decision on him next year. Nobody could reasonably predict at draft time how Wilson and Brown would turn out. And most importantly, CeeDee was far and away the best player available when we on the clock. It’s one thing to pick for need when the choices are of similar value, but ALWAYS go BPA when the value is heavily slanted. And you have 5 years of control.

We’ve invested a lot in the secondary over the years but have trouble hitting on players. Outside of the QB position corner is the toughest position to play in the NFL. Much easier to hit on a receiver than a corner or safety.

Currently we're under invested in execution. Talent aside, you're still allowed to be near wide receivers. The goal of this roster based on the pay is to put a lot of pressure on other teams to keep up with scoring, then clean up their mistakes w/ our defense. Instead, we continually put them in unfavorable positions and expecting better than they're supposed to be. Yes, they absolutely need to get better but the team isn't helping them in the slightest.

Drafting is about adding the best talent you can
Not drafting position
Drafting a DB with lamb on the board would have been complete stupidity
Also you can look at one season but years ahead
I’m convinced after 2021 one WR will be gone and it won’t be Gallup
