Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

We had him last year. #32 on defense. Last I checked, there's only 32 teams.

How was the defense with and without Parsons last year?

IE was it ranked higher or lower in the games he was in?
Or is that type of stat even available?

Honest question, not some gotcha follow up.
I’ve seen quotes that states Cowboys had one of the best pass rushes with Parsons and worst without him.

It still shocks me some of our fans thinks losing a generational talent and his impact on pass rushes hasn’t taken a toll.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .
This is kinda funny because I just read 2 articles that suggested just the opposite. That the Cowboys may actually fare better later on especially since Micah hasn't blown the doors off at GB. Our defense was garbage before he left. More than anything, we could not stop the run last weekend and that has been a constant even when Micah was here.

We misplaced his Lombardi?

It did, but it also seems apparent that we weren't going to be that good on defense even with him. We'd be starting Mazi or Toia and our zone coverage and secondary injuries would be just as problematic for us. Maybe we win against Carolina, maybe against Green Bay with him, but maybe we still lose those games because of what we would have at defensive tackle and linebacker. No reason to pass when you can run over us, which teams are doing even with Clark here.
But wining a couple more games makes all the difference. That’s a tremendous impact .

Yea but what have they done with CeeDee here? What have they done with Dak (who is a lot more expensive) here? What did we do with Witten here? What did we do with Romo here? Tank? Dez? Tyron Smith? Martin? Fredbeard?

Do we not pay great players because Jerry cannot build a championship team?

I just do not get why he was the line.......
Great point. And it was obviously our plan to resign him. Jethro’s ego just got in the way.

I dont think it would have made much of a difference. You go from last to 3rd to last?

Right now there are wide receivers running wide open all over the field. Micah Parsons can’t fix that.

I think their problem is a combination of mediocre talent and a new scheme that they are still adjusting to.

Oh yeah! There are also gaping holes for opposing RB’s to run through.

This defense stinks!

Why are people acting like we aren't getting pressure?

It could absolutely be better, but pressure is only a fraction of our defensive downfall.

How about covering screens, the middle of the field and quick developing routes? All of those negate pressure for the most part and yet they are terrible at defending them.

Pressure has nothing to do with being blown off the ball all day vs Carolina and not staying in their gaps.

Yeah we're worse for not having Micha, but the defense needs much more than pressure to fix it.

Last year Cowboys were close to bottom barrel in most Defense categories this year bottom barrel so really not much difference. What did MP add not much if you look at the numbers. Have no problem with the trade, he’s just not the game changer like a LT was.
Last year was all about losing Dak for season. The previous 3 years with Micah defense was much better.

Was it enough to go deeper , no but neither was Dak or Lamb.

You don’t trade your best players . And we didn’t have any intention of doing so.

Just think of how we will look in 2 years with 4 first round draft picks on this team. It is pretty clear this defense needs more than just one player. Last year with Micah we were not a good defense so there is that too.

You are not wrong, but that defense would likely be good enough to make the playoffs and exit after the first game.

At least this way, we can see what we have and if we don't get lucky this year, at least maybe we can improve next season with the extra cap space and draft picks.
And how likely is that with our dysfunctional front office. But are fair argumentative topics.

Regardless that’s not my agenda in this thread which I spelled out in OP. I feel some are just reacting to title .

The bigger point is the impact trading Micah has taken on this season. And if it’s the difference between making the playoffs and not , then I’d argue that’s a huge impact .

This defense would have been bad with Micah as well. Its that bad.

Now that it is over I am glad they traded him. They have money to sign players and draft picks to help this defense going forward.
I dont know brother.

Micah covered up a lot of holes on this defense if only for the fact DCs had to plan for him.

Nothing has really changed in the secondary from when Quinn was here talent wise, so I find it hard to believe that we are seeing them regress THIS bad and him not being on the team has nothing to do with that.

No it didn't.

Didn't help though. Would be nice to have his talent.

We better do something with the extra 140 million and draft picks

To me, it all comes down to what did the team do with Parsons here? It played great during a lot of regular season games and then made quick exits in the playoffs.

Now, that's not me saying it was Micah's fault because it wasn't as several people deserve that blame, but simply having Micah on the team did not change the end result.

For $40+ million per year you could get 4 starters and throw in 2 extra first round draft picks combined with the fact that 4 years with Parsons yielded no deep playoff runs (again, not his fault but having him didn't make it happen either), it's a no brainer decision to me.

The Cowboys defense is bad on all levels. One superstar player like Micah would help, but it wouldn't fix anything.
But if Parsons was part of the reason we are making playoffs , you continue trying to build around that. Just like you do on offense Dak, etc.

And the 40 million is not actual Cap hits which is only 10 million this year and as usual big hits are on back end. That’s when you consider cutting ties or renegotiate.

it wasn't the trade it was not signing better linebackers and a safety

Losing Dak should not affect the D how did the GB game work out the year before. Unfortunately MP had a habit of disappearing in big games. Looking objectively at this point I don’t see any difference in Dallas and in GB D wise, only time will tell the story but trading him whether they wanted to or not was the right decision
