kicker, punter, fullback never in round 1.

te, rb, og, oc almost never.

all of those positions would have grading penalties for me.

kicker, punter, fullback would top out at about 80-85 points.

te, rb, og, oc would top out at about 90 points.
that's no higher than mid first round.

Only players worth taking in the first round are WRs and CBs since they run the fastest 40s

To me it's all about the bust rate. TE and OG normally have a better success rate than other positions. I would have no issue drafting one or the other is the grade was right.

Other positions are overdrafted. QB, WR and DL are especially worrisome in that regard. If you are drafting at the top of the draft then that is one thing. OTOH, if you are in the middle rounds and the pickings are thinned out then I would be reluctant to draft those positions.

WR especially. Dez may very well work out in a big way but I absolutely hated that trade.

Bust rate is high on other positions as well. At least as far as meeting blue chip status. We are talking about the team that draft David LeFluer.

At OG:
In the Pro Bowl Mankins was chosen 31st overall, th eother two AFC OGs were 3rd round picks.
In the NFC is was 1 1st rounder, 1 4th and 1 2nd.

So all these other 1st round OGs didn't make it.

If I am drafting an OG in round 1 he better be a regular in Pro Bowls.

There are certain positions that I wouldn't be inclined to select with a 1st round pick (RB, TE, OG, LB) because the positions tend to fall on draft day and you can usually get good value in later rounds.

But I might use a 1st round pick on one of these positions if I were selecting late in the round, if I had a 1st round grade on the player, and all my other players with 1st round grades were off the board.

Just to note DTs and WR fare pretty bad in the 1st round. Just noting that.

The bust rate is high all over the board. Some positions are riskier than others. You can only speak in generalities.

sadly Pro Bowls are a bad way to judge players anymore.

At the combine on Sunday they showed all the guards and centers taken in the first round since I think either 2005 or 2006. Only one was not a starter.
And most of them are very recognizable for being very good players.
So frankly I would worry more about BUSTs then Pro Bowls.
If you can pick up a 6-10 year quality starter in the First round then do it even at the positions all too many think are not important.
But I do agree that kickers and punters and the like should never be drafted higher then like the 3rd round.

If a once in a generation player comes along (Like AP) at RB then you take him if he falls to you. Other then that I agree that RBs should not be taken anywhere except in the 3rd or lower

Besides Kickers of course.. Is it wise for a organization to spend a first on a RB, OG or Tight ends? Is it better to feel these needs rounds 3-7...

I think it really depends on the talent of the player you are talking about. Is a RB worth a 1st rd pick? If his name is Peterson he is worth it. I think the same could be said about any position it all depends on the player himself. Is his talent level worth a 1st rd pick not his position.

or FB. other than that it's about the player. if i can get the best of any position other than those i don't care where i get them, especially now with the rookie cap
