Are The Cowboys Wasting Dak Prescott's Prime Years? G-Bag Nation

If the Cowboys were doing this thing the right way they would be running a Shanahan type offense. An offense that has a bread and butter base of formations and plays that force a defense to react to it and NOT the other way around. A foundation that can weather the storm of aggressive defensive coordinators. Instead we have history of HCs and OCs that were too happy to lean on a pass happy system of "talent" that crashed when the tough moments arrived. No foundational resistance. No bread and butter. IOW...No identity.

Mark my words...you will see what happened against the Bucs happen AGAIN.
Dak literally signed up for this organization. He pushed for Schotty. At this point Dak has enormous input in offensive game planning. You don’t get that contract and then sit in a closet waiting for the HC/OC to tell you what to do. It’s absurd to suggest otherwise. Dak could walk in, tell Jerry to hire xyz coach that has the style you suggest and it would happen that day.

The G-Bag Nation poses the question: “Are the Cowboys wasting Dak Prescott’s prime years?” What is your honest opinion of Dak as a quarterback? Does he deserve more blame? He’s been given the talent around him, but is the coaching staff helping him out?

My response to 105.3:
The very title chosen "Are The Cowboys Wasting Dak Prescott's Prime Years?" is coming from a faulty premise to begin with, that assumes "Dak would be a successful Playoff QB only if....."

Too many false premises to count. But I'd expect nothing less from the Cowboys Radio Station... Dak was not, and is not, and is never going to be a Playoff caliber QB. Dak has a ceiling, and that will not change, and cannot change, regardless of the talent, or lack of talent, regardless of the coaching, or lack of coaching staff around Dak. When you accept these Big Boy Facts, then all of the endless focus on Regular Season stats, and thousands of peripherals is totally meaningless.

I don't gaf about daks prime years but they sure as hell wasted mine..i was 31 yrs old when we won SB 30,fast forward 30 years and still waiting at 61 for the cowboys to do anything worthwhile.

There is still this concept that Dak Prescott is an elite quarterback.

He's very good, don't get me wrong. He is the starting quarterback on my team, and I support him during the games. I think I have been very fair to Dak. I have supported him.

I am only criticizing the way in which he is being perceived by fans and marketed by Jerry Jones. It's not his fault that Jerry is a putrid GM and even worse contract negotiator.

Dak is the kind of quarterback that can get the job done if there is high-end talent on the rest of the team. He is a high-end busdriver. He is a hard working, above average NFL starting quarterback.

Dak is a top-five quarterback at times when he has a top-five O-line, a top-five receiver, and a defense with a couple top-five players.

If he was an elite quarterback then he would not require such a level of talent to support him. In fact, elite quarterbacks are given elite contracts on the premise that no more than a couple more elite contracts are required in other areas.

Dak is getting paid because Jerry Jones does not believe in open competition or talent acquisition for the most important position in all of football.

Jerry overpaid for Dak.....twice!

Think about that. He experienced a butt-kicking from Dak's agent, who had all the leverage due to Jerry's incompetence.

What did Jerry learn from that? Apparently nothing. He never tried to find a viable alternative during the period of that first huge contract and got molested by Dak's agent a second time.

Don't blame Dak for being Dak. Don't blame him for the size of that contract. Dak's entire career has been mishandled by Jerry from the beginning.

Jerry should have let Zeke sit for that season instead of yet another foolish contract. He could have satisfied Dak that year instead for a much lower amount. Then he could have the time to draft a quarterback with the ability to truly compete for the starting position.
I think you hit the nail on the head there!

"marketing"....by Jerry...AND some fans who wanted to appear "better fans" than other fans.

Wasn't long ago...when we couldn't hoist NFC 'chips or super bowl trophys...many fans played "leader!" and "good dude" cards in their fake outrage moods.

You don't even see THAT much anymore. He's been built up and overhyped to where he can't achieve those lofty claims.

It's not that he's a terrible QB or evil person. There's nothing wrong with being an average QB or faulty human (cause we're all THAT!)

Prescott is not in the Burrow/Stafford (first picks overall) class and never was.

Jerry has it in his head, and he has said so, that when he pays someone to be something, he expects it to happen. Problem is sometimes they aren’t capable. Giving DeMarcus Lawrence 100 million didn’t turn him into Charles Haley.

The only reason Dak got that money on the first deal (after playing on two tags btw) is because Jerry backed himself into a corner. The agent had him….and it happened afterward as well.

Dont blame Dak for his paycheck. Blame Jerry. Don’t expect elite QB play just because he is paid that way.

Well, you know, normally I like to bag on Jerry as much as the next guy.
But if it wasn't for the designing of offenses that Dak can operate efficiently starting in year one with Linehan he wouldt have been in the league more than 2 or 3 seasons.
Lord knows. I like to bag on Scott Linehan also, as I used to hate some of his running plays, however, he sized up Dak almost instantly and figured out what he was gonna need to be successful in this league.
Isn’t that the job of every coach?

If Dak were on any other team, we'd be talking super bowls.
LOL, no. You might have a point if Dak hadn't already blown a 13-3 one seed with a one and done, did nothing with a team that had the league leading rusher at the same time as a top 10 defense, and was the worst player on the field in the first half of that last GB playoff game where he had the two seed.

Dak has had plenty of chances and always came up small in the playoffs. it's who he is. Just accept it.

Well, he didn't have the best offensive line, the best running back in the game, and the best receivers in the game, and don't let me mention the best shutdown defense ever created. If he had this, we might have won one playoff game. Cowboys on three.........three...

Isn’t that the job of every coach?
It might be their job, but some of them still insist on fitting the player into their system, which is usually an epic failI.
Look at the LAC if you wanna see a train wreck unfolding before your eyes.

I question the use of prime here. I think Dak's prime years were before injuries took away some of his mobility, and yes, we did waste those, just like we wasted Ware's prime years and Witten's prime years and Martin's prime years and Tyron's prime years and Romo's prime years.

Well, they certainly wasted my prime years!

I thought it was normal as a young man to have your NFL Team become a dynasty.

Grey beard later, still looking for another sniff of the Lombardi Trophy.
