They would be wrong not to ask them.
A player taking less money gives you an advantage.
It doesn't, and I think that in some cases, it's part of seeing a bigger picture.
Let's face it, the Cowboys have never been "cheap" when it comes to the cap and paying their players. In fact, I can name plenty of times where they could have done it and didn't.
While I realize that players play this game for money and to take care of their families, I also realize that it is in fact not the
only factor involved in their career. The biggest factor? Undoubtedly. But certainly not the only one.
They also want to have success, both on the field with wins and accolades, but off the field as well, via endorsements and life after football. And that life after football constitutes much more of life than the time on it.
Let's face facts, the Joneses aren't trying to be cheap here, they're trying to keep as many players togetherness as possible under the constraints of the salary cap. They're not about to put the money in their pockets. They already have more than enough.
But if there is no compromise from any of these players, some of them are undoubtedly going to be out in the cold. Going to a lesser team, solely for money, and missing out on a lot of potential "life after football" opportunities for the sake of a few dollars more in the short term.
I don't think it's worth it.
