Green Bay was at home and they are supposed to have a top ten, possibly top five defense this year. If not for some serious special teams flaps, the Eagles would have won this game. The Eagles Defense looked pretty good and had Favre running all day. They may struggle some early, but they should still be considered the team to beat until Dallas can prove otherwise. Just my two cents after watching the game.
The eagles should have won that game, i agree, ST lost them a game they should have won - and they'll have one more like that this year. Everyone had that GB game chalked up as a win for the Birds.

GB is supposed to have a much improved defense, well - at least the front 7 is supposed to be one of the tougher fronts. The secondary is just OK, IMO - and when Harris was sitting out it wasn't looking so good.

The mani thing to me, it seems like they are gonna have to let westbrook carry the offense even more this year than in the past, that is why i see them taking a step back. The radio station reported wetsbrook accounted for 89% of the offense last week in GB. You cant do that all year. Curtis is fast and can break one, but if you have a corner to match his speed, he isnt going to so effective. LJ smith is always getting hurt, drops a lot of passes - he is not consistent. I dont like reggie brown.

I really dont see this offense being anything other than mediocre.

They lost to the Packers last week. The lowly Green Bay Packers.

Are they a legitimate team still, or are the wheels coming off the hinges?

Thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.
The 2007 Philadelphia Eagles = The 2000 Dallas Cowboys. A team that was once good, now saddled with aging veterans who can't contribute at the levels they once did, an injury-plagued quarterback, and poor drafting.

Yes, they're going down, and they will go into a rebuilding cycle.

Wheels and hinges??

While the Eagles didn't play very good football, the Packers aren't a slouch. Their defense is very good, and while Favre is merely a shadow of his former self, the Packers could very well push Chicago in the NFC North.

The question probably should be. Is the Eagles offense really that bad or is the Packer defense really that good?

I agree the window of opportunity is much smaller today for Philly than it has been but I would not discount them this season. They are the defending winner of the NFC East and went 5-1 in the division and 9-3 in the conference. I'd wait and see what they do over the next few weeks before getting their tombstone ready

No one mentioned the fact that the Skins have Campbell at QB and it wasn't that good against the Dolphins. Skins showed a pretty good defense and running game but not a passing game. I think the Eagles can take him which hopefully leaves us the only 2-0 team in the NFC East -- assuming we get the job done in Miami.

You got to reach the top before you can be on a "downswing"! They have a few NFC-E titles...big deal! The Texans have the Governers Cup, too!

The eagles have nothing...absoutely nothing!

But knowing the Eagles they will trounce the Commanders and guys like Tom Jackson and Ron Jaworski and the schwami will have him rated #1 by end of the game.

For the record. I want the skins to win... Dallas 2-0 - everyone else 1-1 or 0-2
Skins won last week, so if they win they'd be 2-0.

At the end of the day, the Eagles will still get after the QB. Defensively they have 2 unknowns at LB. Considine is OK at safety. They still have 2 good CBs, which will allow Jim Johnson to get after the QB. I think they might have trouble stopping the run again. But overall, I still think they have a strong D. Kearse and Cole are 2 good pass rushers who can generate a fair amount of pressure as it is, and thats without Jim Johnson's aggressive approach with his LB's,etc.

Offensively I think their OL is as bad as it has been in years. McNabb did not look great, but to his credit, GB has a very strong, and still underrated defense. Westbrook is Westbrook. But I think that McNabb might be throwing to his worst WR in a while. I like Kevin Curtis, but as a slot guy. I think it's different when you get covered by the teams best CB week in week out rather than the 2nd or 3rd guy. LJ Smith can't seem to stay healthy either.

I think another poster in a different thread made a great point. The Eagles don't generally play to Westbrook's strengths when McNabb is in the line up. I think that Westbrook needs to be the focus of their offense, much like Tiki Barber was in NY, instead of putting it on McNabb. When Reid is forced to game plan without McNabb in the line up he utilizes Westbrook alot more. But I'm not sure if that's Reid's gameplanning, or just the way that McNabb plays.

Bottom line, it was one game. Philly still is probably going to challenge for the division this year.

And as happy as I was by our perfomance against NY, defensively it was not reassuring. Was Eli's great perfomance a product of him maturing? Or was it more a product of our defense playing terribly? So yes, you can find fauts wiht Philly. But the reason I think they can still challenge for the division is that our team has not yet proven that we can get it done on both sides of the ball. Plain and simple.

But they got rid of Garcia, who took them to the playoffs, after McNabb was 5 and 5. The Eagles have to go 9 - 6 for the rest of the season to get to the playoffs. That will be tough.

I'm not going to sell McNabb short just because I don't care for the Eagles. The guy is very capable of producing big numbers. I don't let my dislike of a team to blind me to the fact they have some talent on that team and can win games. Right now Dallas is the one who has to prove something and I think we will but until you de-thrown the eagles they are still the top team in the NFC East

I think it might be a little bit of both. The Eagles are not the dominant team they used to be, and the Packers are not the doormat they have been for the past couple of years. The Packers defense, in particular, has some talent and should improve as the season progresses.

The Eagles defense does a pretty good job getting after the QB, but is not a dominant defense like it has been. I am also one who feels like McNabb is overrated.

I'm really not sure who I want to win the Philly/Skins game. A win by Philly puts us alone on top of the NFC East. If Washington wins, it helps bury Philly, two games below us, and I think Philly is a better team than the Skins. I think I will have to root for the Skins this week.
