Are we better off now than with Bill?

This question was asked on GAC this afternoon, and I was wondering what members of this board thought.

Are you excited about the changes so far, or are you feeling "Big Bill withdrawal"?

I like the team we're building. Wade Phillips wasn't a sexy hire, but I think the defense will be much better. I see this defense being much more aggressive, getting sacks, forcing turnovers, and finally ditching the "bend but don't break" philosophy that frustrated so many fans these past few years.

I also think the offense will be better IF we re-sign Columbo and plug Leonard Davis in at RG. We were dominated late in the season, but if the line can protect Romo and open lanes for JJ/Barber, our offense will be solid.

Do I think we need another pass rusher opposite Ware, even if Ellis comes back at 100%? Yes.

Do I think we need to draft a DB to move Roy Williams out of coverage and back to being a wrecking ball? Yes.

Do I think we need to draft some young talent on the offensive side of the ball (particularly the OLine and receiver)? Yes.

But so far, I like what I've seen. Bill Parcells brought respectability back to the Cowboys franchise, but we went as far as we could go with him. This team has received a breath of fresh air, and I'm looking forward to Week 1.

OHH! OH! OH! I have a question Mr. Kotter.

How on Gods green earth are we gonna know that?

Yeah I like some of the pieces he left behind.... I really didnt like the wasting time that we did with him though...

I have to admit I feel good about our direction... mostly because Wade and the 3-4 and the offense seems to run itself....

BP got credit for natural progression... kinda like foster parents who take credit for the success of kids they had for 3 years! If this team had no #1 draft picks and Free agent money to blow... then yeah I would give BP credit!!!

other than that he was a caretaker!

I think we are. Bill's stubborn ways were IMO holding this team back. The only thing that I will miss is his PC's. He really handed it to those r-tards.

Oh Lord! Here we go.. lol the season hasn't started yet.

Too soon to say, I think Parcells and now Phillips bring different things to the table that when combined will reap good fruit.

Absolutely, 1000%. Parcells acquired some talent...whoopeee. Any competent coach would have upgraded the pathetic level of talent Bill inherited. He totally wasted the talent he gathered though. His coaching was pathetic and we are definitely better off with someone other than him running the show, IMHO.

It's been like what....30 days since Wade Phillips was hired?

Put me down for INCOMPLETE since the paint has yet to dry on his door at Valley Ranch, the current FA isn't over, his first draft class has yet to be drafted, his first training camp has yet to be run, his first exhibition game has yet to be played, as well as his first regular season game...

Other than that, things are looking dandy.

.................we have a winner................

I'll have to let you know at a later date.

I like some of the groceries Parcells bought but at times I thought he needed a new chef as the most part the main course was a little to bland for my taste.

We'll see if The New Chef in town can add a little spice to the meat & potatoes..

Anyone who can say - definitively - yes, at this moment in time, just didn't like Bill in the first place, and would be happy if we had Rowdy coaching the team. That's not the brightest stance, but hey, at least it's a stance.

It's a ridiculous question to be asking today. There's just no way to know. Let this be a lesson to you - never listen to GAC. It's asking these types of questions with no REASONABLE answers that have made him the idiot he is today.

Now...that there is a nice little metaphor, CB:grin:

I'm so happy Parcells and his fat scowl are gone from the Cowboys sideline I can't contain myself.

A mixed bag.

I think Bill may have instilled a solid work ethic into the team... but his management style left something to be desired.

I believe there will be some positive "bounce-back" for the team in 2007... I think it will overachieve to some extent.

2008? I'm not sure. Phillips might be too easy going (sorta "Switzer-like") and we could end up with some issues heading into the 2008 season.

Winipoo, I think you might have hit on it. the relaxed style for the players here might be good for a year- but Wade still better be tough on the important parts of discipline or it will be like what happened after Jimmy left and Switzer came in.
Really will not know for 2 full seasons.

So, that was a metaphor ....:)

I've always been partial to good old home cooking. :)
