Are we headed anywhere?

That is what I'm asking myself this morning. When the Cowboys made their run in the 90's you could have literally graphed their rise and fall.

1992 1993 1995
1991 1994 1996 and down it went.
1990
1989

I know that we improved from last year, but I just don't have the sense that this year means that we go any farther next year. I couldn't wait for 1992, just knew that we were a step away in 91. I don't have that same feeling.

Some thoughts as to why:

1. I'm not sold on Wade Phillips as a Super Bowl type coach. Sorry, I'm just not.

2. If we stay with Wade Phillips we will not keep a guy like Jason Garrett.

3. Marion the Barbarian is great at what he does, GREAT, but I don't think he is a single feature back. We need another running back and Julius Jones isn't the answer.

4. Patrick Crayton is a below average 2, and a pretty good 3, we need another receiver.

5. Our defense still has issues.

6. I have complete faith in Jerry's willingness to do what it takes to get us back to a championship level. I have zero faith that he knows what it is going to take to get us there.

Can you believe 11 years without a playoff win? The Dallas Cowboys? It is unbelievable.

Interesting. You can see your graph when you preview the thread, but not when you click into it.

EDIT: Do you think Terry Glenn will be back ?

I noticed that too! :)

We were lucky to be 13-3 with as many holes as we have. We are a very good team but IMO we are not at the same level as a NE or INDY just yet (not many teams are). We can get there but there are definite areas that need to be addressed.

One of them is Roy Williams - Jerry has to come to terms with himself on that or we are screwed.

I agree with you Sarge, and I was thinking yesterday, what in the world has happened to Roy? I don't think he was this bad all along. Something has happened, whether it is confidence, or he has slacked off in his desire and preparation.

So you think that Jerry is preventing coaches from benching Roy, or just that he is their best option ? Personally, I think Roy has a reputation, and it proceeds him, then you add in the probowl appearances, some people get giddy.

If Glenn could come back completely healthy I could see it. If he is gimpy in the least I don't think they give it another year.

See, I think he might be done regardless. You want a top notch WR, you guys might have to go and get one of these younger guys. I've always liked Glenn as a player, but I don't really know how much he has left in the tank, getting a young guy now for Romo to gel with could be critical for the future of this team.

Resigning Roy Williams to that big contract was a huge mistake, that money could have been spent wisely on other championship pieces... I believe it's time for Dallas to draft a big time running back and let Barber go if a team is willing to let go of both a 1st and 3rd round pick. Dallas will almost certainly be in the market for a big time #2 receiver that can eventually take the lead role.

There is no doubt in my mind that Glenn has played his last game as a Dallas Cowboy.

Let Barber go??? He is one of 2-3 players that actually showed up yesterday. He also brings intagibles to the game other than just running the ball. He gets others around him fired up. That is missing in this team. It needs more players like Barber not less. No way do I get rid of Barber. What game were you watching yesterday anyways?

Drafting a big time RB is about as big a gamble as there is these days. Take Reggie Bush, Cadillac Williams, LenDale White, etc. as examples.

You have Peterson as a great one thus far, but who is to say next year he won't be terrible. Besides letting Barber go is ridiculous.

Agreed - WR will definitely be an area being addressed this offseason.

That situation doesn't have any easy answers. My guess is that Jerry does nothing.

To me, it's clear we need to address a number 2 WR in FA.

And the other priority is to get a number 3 CB as well.

These are my top 2 priorities heading into FA, assuming we re-sign Hamlin.

In the draft we can add another RB, Defensive Back, etc.

There aren't many holes, but if we want to get this team to the next level, a WR and CB are critical, IMO.

Yep the team is headed into the offseason with tails tucked between their legs and lots of player decisions to be made

I think the WR position MUST be addressed. The speed needs to be upgraded especially.....but I will take anyone who can catch the ball and run good routes.

Two corners need to be brought in, a veteran and a rookie.

The entire Special teams unit including a punt returner, and guys willing to bust wedges and make tackles

Speed to the safety position.

Dare I say a new coach???

Doubtful. Unless a major contract restructure is done. No.
Major contract restructure? He's scheduled to make $1.7 million next year. That's dirt cheap.

I agree with all of Rcaldw's assessments. Right now I am looking forward to a verrrrrrrrry long offseason as this season, along with the last ten or so, have beaten me down. I will not miss football this spring or summer, I can guarantee you that.
