with your comment about Eberflus and Micah, it's like did they actually look at their defensive leader and try to align him with a guy that's all about getting PRESSURE,or did they just go with a guy they were comfortable with and knew. I think it's more important to pair your top player up with a coach that's known for getting the best out of his rushersI get where you're coming from but we might be jumping the gun on this one a little bit. The second they signed Eberflus I think it was a given that they were bringing back OSA. Them signing him to a deal instead of negotiating via the tag is a very positive sign that could free up some additional cap space for them to actually play around with free agency. I'm still not sold on the idea that they will do that, but the door seems to be cracked open.
Also I wouldnt rule out a major move like dumping a Parsons either. I dont want to put too much stock in the Titans rumor, but it didnt come from nowhere. Its also possible that moving Parsons could still be an option. That would be a major culture changer, and instantly bring in some fresh blood via the draft. He is the guy that I really struggle to see benefiting from an Eberflus defense, and its the reason i was left scratching my head when he was hired.
I'm all for the Jerry/Stephen bashing until they actually give us reason for optimism, but there is something different in the air right now....like they are feeling the pressure to do something big. Lets see if they really intend to do something big or just shine up a turd for us.
I dont disagree, and maybe Eberflus has some different plans than what he has shown in the past, we really dont know. Micah just seems like an odd fit in this defense. He was the focal point of DQs defenses here. Zimmer let him roam around the A gap. Eberflus historically doesnt bring many of these exotic looks and while he has had some good defenses he doesnt seem like the choice to maximize Micah at all.with your comment about Eberflus and Micah, it's like did they actually look at their defensive leader and try to align him with a guy that's all about getting PRESSURE,or did they just go with a guy they were comfortable with and knew. Look around the forum...they still have enough people fooled to just continue doing what they have been. Wait until @Rockport comes back this spring to tell everyone how to be a real fan. There's unfortunately enough Rockports in the world to keep the money train rolling along for Jerry and Cap'n DipstickIf our favorite team was coming off a nice run of playoff wins over the last decade, I would be glad to see our front office and coaching staff craft our roster around keeping some key players that have been most influential in a bunch of playoff wins.
Problem is we have 2 wild card wins the last decade and a culture that has been questioned by those both inside and outside of this organization as being soft and not focused fully on winning football games.
Serious question- So why would this organization- almost yearly - decide the most important free agents to sign are “our guys”? Our guys who haven’t really an complished that much. Are we trying to keep the same culture and performance from “our guys” why would expect the results it to get any better?
Put another way, are we assuming “our culture is fine”? Is our FO really just convinced that this three decade playoff drought is just bad luck?
Because if there’s no learning or understanding about what’s wrong with this organization, how are we supposed to “believe” we have righted the ship in the right direction?
I’m hoping we have a great draft and sign some impactful FAs. But what about this team’s culture? Doesn’t it need addressing too?
We recently had 3, 12 wins seasons in a row. An unbiased opinion would probably be happy with being that close and OK with this approach. The many injuries this year would also give the same unbiased opinion cause for hope in a bounce back season. The Dak signing and failure to deliver on the All In promise is a humiliating to this fan base as is was on McLovin.....If our favorite team was coming off a nice run of playoff wins over the last decade, I would be glad to see our front office and coaching staff craft our roster around keeping some key players that have been most influential in a bunch of playoff wins.

Quite the opposite IMO, nothing has changed. Sure, there's the appearance of motion when you replace the coaching staff but truth is that Jerry sets the tone, undermines the coaches, promotes the circus... the culture of the Dallas Cowboys starts and ends with him.If our favorite team was coming off a nice run of playoff wins over the last decade, I would be glad to see our front office and coaching staff craft our roster around keeping some key players that have been most influential in a bunch of playoff wins.

Or at the very least, hire a real GM and let the man do his job. 30 years and counting.I will assume that when the Jones family no longer has anything to do with football ops. Until then.....no.
OK Bob, To admit that we have a problem with our culture would take the front office admitting that "they" have a problem. If our favorite team was coming off a nice run of playoff wins over the last decade, I would be glad to see our front office and coaching staff craft our roster around keeping some key players that have been most influential in a bunch of playoff wins.

I'm glad you brought that up. I like the guy too. He would be good for this roster. The culture is hopefully changing, as it appears they let Schott pick his own staff sans Eberflus. Winning will improve the culture and hopefully the energy of the younger new coaches will help as well.
That’s why I’m adamant about bringing in Nick Bolton. He’s a damn good MLB but has won SB’s. Teach the D how to win. We need more of these types around here.
Bob, is this specifically about Osi? Are you of the opinion the Cowboys should not sign him?If our favorite team was coming off a nice run of playoff wins over the last decade, I would be glad to see our front office and coaching staff craft our roster around keeping some key players that have been most influential in a bunch of playoff wins.

And I would feel better about the players we sign if I knew what kind of team this FO is actually trying to build. They look at big contracts as a reward instead of looking at it as is this player good enough going forward to validate this cap space.
No I was not necessarily thinking of the probable Osa signing. I think he’s a good (not great) DT at a position where there are gaping holes. I personally like Odighizhua as a player and person.Bob, is this specifically about Osi? Are you of the opinion the Cowboys should not sign him?
If that’s the case, are you also advocating the Cowboys not extend Micah and look to trade him before he has a chance to leave?
I’m just curious which players are being kept that you feel are part of a culture problem.
