Are we really looking to use our #1's just for 2 players..?

Personally trading down both picks would be iuncredibly bad IMO

We have a very good roster already with few holes. I would rather trade both picks up and get a difference maker than trade down and get someone with less chance to be special

Yeah, but you're talking about getting 7-8 draft picks in rounds 2 and 3? What happened to UDFA?

I don't want any more "roster bodies." I want PLAYERS. We need PLAYERS at RB, CB, and WR. We don't need bodies to fill out a roster and play special teams. If we draft players at those positions, they can push regulars and some talent is going to play special teams.

IMO you don't draft people with special teams in mind. You should draft PLAYERS who push for playing time on offense or defense. The more dpeth you have there, the more talent you can get on the ST squad.

If you have 7-8 picks in rounds 2 and 3, then one in each of the last 4 rounds, that's already 12 bodies. Why can't we just fill our roster with guys who can play offense or defense, then fill out Special Teams from the guys pushed out of PT?

Ever heard the saying "special teams wins championships?" Nope.

Nobody is suggesting we reduce the draft to drafting for 'special teams'.

That would be crazy.

I'm suggesting we use the picks to broadly solidify multiple positions of clear need thru this draft..not just one or two.

Your trickle down effect on special teams didn't work so well last year and really hasn't worked for the last 5 years before that under BP. We never have had our KR or PR teams dominating field position and our PR and KO return protection units constantly force the defense into defending short fields. Usually unsuccessfully.

And actually, special teams is a strong 1/3 of all the snaps on the field usually and we have significant problems there. I subscribe to the Jimmy Johnson way of building your team. 1/3 offense. 1/3 defense and 1/3 special teams.

It's not a sexy part of the equation and it's not as much fun debating about who makes the PR unit as much as who backs up TO or who splits the carries with MBIII, I'll grant you that.

Again, I want like everybody to get that WR, CB and RB that we all seem to agree is primary. I see a way to do it AND address several more problem areas.

I think I've actually pointed out a viable concern that is overlooked with what I'm saying. And I think if we are as good as we think are in finding talent, this would be a viable way to solve a bunch of problems.

I think what many voice with wanting to stick with just staying with the draft picks where they are is that they actually are saying our scouts and scouting department are not up to such a task and therefore let's just keep it simple and draft it where we are with whatever falls our way.

And they maybe right. If we don't have the research in place, we don't beleive in our scouting reports enough or didn't come away with a real good feel from the Combine about what they saw there..my suggestions would do more harm than good probably.

With Ireland and his assistant gone, we may lack the experience and the consensus of knowing who to pick when with so many picks to orchestrate.

We may not be sufficiently prepared to under take such a draft. There is a danger in having too much of a good thing.

Then again..I think we should look at it.

Thanks for your reply.

Tom Ciscowski has been running our collegiate drafts for the past 6 years so I'm pretty confident the draft will continue to produce good players.

Im not sure who this was directed at but it's regretable..

Listen, I dont really agree with the original post but I welcome a thread that has some thought and a different perspective on things.

Unless you want more McFadden trade up or "wow" titled threads???

..thanks for the reply.

Personally I think he's up to doing this for us knowing he's been here all along.

I was just giving some wiggle room for those that want to believe sitting pat and hoping for the best is Nirvana.

It was meant as a 'takeaway' for those thinking I lost it with my suggestions.

..just trying to think out of the box with this thread and laying down a viable approach beyond the run of the mill draft stratagies.

We all know that's going to ruffle some feathers around here for people that only post one line replies like this poster.

Not a problem.

But I really do think it's doable.

And I respect every other posters opinions..

..well most of them.

I think we are only 1 or 2 players away from the SB. Who in the NFC is better?

Packers? Not with Farve hanging it up, they will be lucky to get to 10-6 with a new QB.

Giants? Even though they won the SB, I think we clearly have the better roster. We beat them twice in the reg season by double digits each time and had multiple, multiple, multiple opportunities to win the playoff game (at least 2 TD passes flat out dropped and Crayton pulled up on another easy 6).

Vikes? Not unless they get a new QB.

Eagles? They will be fighting the Skins for celler dweller status next year.

I would take our roster, right now, over anybody else in the NFC.

I want a dynasty and to be able to win 3 superbowls within the next 7 years
