They are going to have to prove to me they are going to use a rb before I give him a extension, otherwise they're a dime a dozen for limited duty.

I don't know why you wouldn't extend him. Let's look at the facts:

1. He's a top 5 RB when healthy and given the ball.

2. We just invested 3 1st round picks on O-line.

3. We have absolutely no decent depth behind Murray.

4. We have a 34 year old QB who can't do it all on his own.

5. Garrett says our improved O-line will improve the worst defense in franchise history by allowing us to control the clock.

6. He's only 26 years old and hasn't had as much wear and tear as other RBs his age.

7. Without a running game we're a horrible defense and a one -dimensional offense.

Murray gives our offense balance and takes pressure off our defense. I'd argue he's the most valuable player on the team besides Romo. And the guy pumps life into the team the same way Barber used to. He's quite possibly my favorite player on the team and by far the most underrated player by the fans.

You can't really believe that.

Maybe not top 5, but he had better YPC than all of the backs you mentioned last year and was 11th in yards, while missing 2 games.

I'd extend him for what the Dolphins gave Moreno 3 years-9 million or so.... Not for much more than that RBs are a dime a dozen

It will come down to his health/production in 2014 and what kind of money he's looking for. He's never completed a full season and with the Cowboys having to extend Tyron and Dez in 2015 that may leave Murray on the outside. With the pass happy league the NFL has become it's dropped the RB market considerably. Teams are replacing departing RB's for half the cost in the draft. RB's are now being used differently with the implementation of spread offenses and change of pace backs which is why guys like MJD don't get resigned.

The game has changed so much that RB's aren't even coming off the board until after the first round of the draft. Aging often injured RB's aren't exactly a hot commodity. Jerry wouldn't hesitate to try and find Murray's replacement in next years draft if he can't stay on the field for a full 16 games this upcoming season.

I hope Jerry learned from the 7 year 45 million. 16 million gauranteed that he gave Barber... Murray ain't special low ball him.. if he don't sign move on.. with this line he shouldn't be hard to replace

Good point. In games that Murray was doing well, they would just quit using him. He kinda had an attitude about it and I can't blame him. Why waste resources on a player that they are only going to use on a limited basis?

WE SHOULD NOT GIVE HIM A NEW CONTRACT EVEN IF PUTS UP 1500 YARDS(which he wont).

Top 10 at least. Definitely behind the first 4 you listed but in the same category as the others you listed.

I don't think that's realistic. Here is a list of some of the biggest RB contracts. I think he's comparable to Forte.

He'd be in that Gore, Charles and Spiller neighborhood. #paydatman #resign

I

def fault the organization when Zac Stacy was sitting there and they could have drafted Eddie Lacy instead of reaching for Escobar.

If all the clubs knew Zac Stacy would be Zac Stacy in the NFL, he would have gone in the 2nd or 3rd round instead. It's not just the Cowboys....31 other organizations passed. Easy to do this retrospectively.

The way Murray runs, you know he is a special player. The way he glides around the field, and takes out defenders. He is a VERY SKILLED RB that hasn't been able to show the league his ceiling yet.

I gurantee if we run properly this year, he will want more money and rightfully so. The kid has great talent. He hasn't even been on a very good OL yet either.

If we get rid of him we deserve to be stuck with the Troy Hambricks for a while.

I don't doubt Murray's talents, but he still needs to put a complete season together before we put him in the elite category. Hopefully this is the year because the o line is stocked in front of him. It wouldn't shock me 1 bit if he ran for 1400 yards with 10 tds. But it also wouldn't shock me if he ran for 850 and missed 4 games

And I'm fine with top 10, he could fit anywhere from 7-9 imo.

You bring up a good point. If we let him play this season out, behind an improved oline and re-dedication to the run game, do we risk having his price go up? It might be cheaper to resign him now.

Lots of people preferred Stacy to Randle pre draft. We had our choice between the two and chose the wrong one. It's there job to get it right. 31 other teams didn't draft Randle they were also correct. He has not even for a moment looked like an nfl quality player.

He's 26 years old (February). He's an extremely vital part of our offense. He's a capable runner btw the tackles, catcher out the backfield, and blocker for Romo. I know some believe you should never pay a running back (outside of an AP talent) in today's NFL. Honestly, I sort of agree with that sentiment. Since we are just now getting out of cap hell, it would be nice to find a cheap replacement for him but we have yet to do that the last few drafts, putting a little more pressure on us to resign him this year. Is there a "team friendly" deal that works for you guys knowing that Dez/Tyron are coming up on new deals as well? We'll need to show some discipline and make a tough decision on one of the three right?

Depends on if he can stay healthy
Depends on his production
Depends on how much he wants

With 3 first round picks on the line, any running back worth a dam should put up a 1000 yards so I am not breaking the bank for Murray.

Give me a moderate, cap-friendly contract with playing time incentive--to hedge against injuries--and I'm all for it.

This! Don't give away the farm. But he is a proven talented productive player. The playing time and the amount of money are the issues. At a decent contract with the playing time incentive and he would be a great sign. The man can play!

I really think he can be a 1400 + yard back , and I hope that the front office sees the potential for his price to skyrocket after this season. CJ2K went off 1 year and got $$$.
