No, it's not the fans.
Growing since 1974 when DFW airport opened and then American Airlines moved their corporate headquarters there it began a corporate mecca with other corporations moving there due to no state income tax and many other incentives that have been offered as a drawing card to a rather mild climate compared to other parts of the U.S.

Along with those moves you have many of those corporations not only adding to the local economy but have top level executives uprooting and relocating their families to DFW. When they make moves many times from the home and state that they've lived in for many years and sometimes a lifetime, their allegiance to their favorite sports teams don't change simply because of the move. By doing that you have an influx of what would have been "visiting" teams that by geographic locale are now a "home" team without the true local influence.

So when we watch games where it seems that there is a huge % of visiting fans that have taken over the stadium, there is a good chance that the "visiting" fan happens to live in the area now. It's not somuch that Cowboys fans are not making crowd noise it's just more evened out that most of the other stadiums.

Green Bay wouldn't have this problem because Green Bay is hardly a corporate mecca.

Good point. The DFW area does have a high percentage of the population that came from out of State. I would estimate that 90% of the people in my neighborhood are not native Texans. In companies that I've worked for, the vast majority of the white collar workers are from out of state.

good post, I have never been there, and it is hard to tell on tv.
one thing that also is stupid is the sounds played on turnovers ! lol sounds like safety beeps and sounds on vehicles like back hoes etc.
I would rather have no sound system and no music played , just crowd noise, and maybe local high school bands with the drums,
I dont care to mix music with a football game. and from the way you say it is , makes me not want to go to a game.

But @ OP , I think with the right crowd noise of well trained fans could help win 1-2 games a year.
If they make it loud every play other team has the ball and quiet for cowboys.
Seattle fans are great at that and they do help their team win games,

Yes, the turnover sound is really stupid. It does should exactly like a construction vehicle that is in reverse.

I would love to have a High School or College Band and no sound system.

If you go to a game, get seats away from where one level overhangs the level below. They have speakers every few feet mounted up under that overhang. I sat there once and it was stupid loud . I've been to concerts that at the time were reported to have the loudest sound system ever on tour and I sat about 20 rows back from the main speaker system. Those concerts were not as loud as Jerry's sound system.

I believe we are. Last year was the first time it was almost a home field since the stadium was built. The utah jazz suck but they always have one of the loudest arenas.

I do think that the loud sound system has something to do with it.

Sound that is that loud can actually leave you feeling physically and mentally drained after a while.

I also would like to say that last year I didn't wear my lucky hat for the Arizona game, so I'm at least partially to blame for that loss.

But it was mainly Weeden's fault.

This is a well informed post and I agree with most of it. I live here and am a season ticket holder so I see it all first hand. With all of that said, the team has sucked for many years. The Cowboys up until this point have been the defitnition of mediocrity. Fans get worn out cheering for a medicore team that has a tendency of ripping your heart out when it matters most. The tide does appear to be changing and the Lions playoff game was the loudest I have ever seen the fans in the new stadium. It was insane there.

Bored with a random question.

Are we the fans to blame for some of our recent playoff misses.

Some of those years where we missed the playoffs by 1 game do you think having a homefield advantage could have changed the outcomes of those seasons and at least made us 1 game better?

Are we failing our team by how bad of a home field advantage we give the Cowboys to play in to the point that it has cost us Division Titles and Playoff appearances?

Damn the phlegmatic ilk of the fans! They buy the merchandise and fill the stadiums and parking lots but they could do more!!! I and you should spit at them! Sorry, Tony. Jason, Dez and Jerra, for our lethargy.

This does makes sense. Though I feel like this should apply to NY too. Hardly anyone who lives/works in the city is from here. Don't think I've ever seen a significant number of non-NY fans at NY games. But I've never been to DFW so maybe NY doesn't have nearly the same amount of corporate migrants.

I can say I may be partly to blame. I might have taken some plays off from time to time, not waiting for a commercial to go to the rest room or get another beer. Checking my fantasy football team, might have cost us a crucial first down. There are times during the off-season and training camp, that I lose my focus from time to time. I did have that one big fumble while I was eating chicken wings, I still regret that one, I knew I should have gotten a couple extra napkins.

The only time that since that stadium opened that it was loud from start to finish was the Detroit game. Having now been to a game at 17 different NFL stadiums, I'm confident in saying that we have some of the most docile fans in the league.

If they are depending on us to get better seeding or whatever, then they don't deserve it.

I'll take all the blame..hehe.

Now can we just for once just ask the players to step up now when the expectations are there?

Last year..

there were no real expectations and b/w Romo's back issues and us not being willing to commit to the run..

I don't think any of us were thinking 12-4.

So now expectations are that the team will finally take the next step and do what we have all been expecting.

But I think we need to be very careful right now.

Our beloved Boys have a tendency to reverse themselves just when we all start to expect.

So I think as fans we have to just stay the course and be patient.

Home field advantage is all good when it really is.

And it's not from the fans.

It's from the team and how it shows up there.

I mean against Detroit..first playoff game at home..

we win the game essentially on a bad call when obvious pass interference wasn't called.

We should have never been that close if we really had a true home field advantage.

So to me, it's not the fans or the stadium or the jinx whatever.

The team has to step up.

Simple.

And before everybody pounds me for saying this..everybody knows what a do-or-die fan I am.

But I always hope for the best and prepare for the worst with us.

Call it a fans syndrome after watching this team for like 50 years.

I think we need to play all night games at home. It seems to be more electric in there when we do.

However we have sucked for many years, and the other guys get paid too. Who wouldn't want to come to this palace of a stadium and shut up 90k fans on national TV?

I've found that as I age by ability to control minds is waning.

I have trouble forcing myself to do many things these days.

We are pitiful.

Just listen to small arms and artillery fire for 12 years like me and get some sweet tinnitus. The stadium ain't no thang for me! ;)

5. Crowd noise might be overrated in terms of Home Field advantage. Texas Stadium didn't have the greatest crowd noise in the early nineties, but the Cowboys still won 3 Super Bowls in that time frame. Seattle reportedly has the best home field advantage, but they didn't win until they had a good team.

If you're going to argue against the impact of crowd noise, I don't know if Seattle is the best evidence for your case. Obviously before they were good the crowd didn't matter, but these past years their home record is far better than their away record, isn't it?

I think your point about the sound system makes a lot of sense.
