Are we trying to pull off some sort of Moneyball?

The people who make decissions in our franchise have no clue. They suck at drafting, they are bad at manageing the cap and they have no idea about evaluation of players or talent.

They know that but they have no idea how to change it, just because they are not good enough educated to build a business from ground up.


So what to do?

They do what an idiot from the street would do if he were in this position: Just take players who were former high picks. Idea: Someone thought they had talent coming out of college. So we pick them.

Great strategy dont you think?

Money ball showed the beauty of statistical analysis. At that point, stats were minimal and OBP was identified as an undervalued quality.

That combined with identifying data that is not important to success but was devalued like arm angle or girlfriend.

If they were doing 'Moneyball' that would mean that they have identified a key trait that is either undervalued or recognized as a detriment when it is not.

People have been talking about getting guys in that hit and run. Those don't seem particularly novel.

We're acquiring all 1st round busts. Like when you go to a store and certain items are discounted because of damage. That's our GM!
 
If you are looking for players to rehabilitate then it does make sense to bring in the ones with the potential highest ceiling as opposed to the UDFA types.

I get that familiarity breeds contempt but don't let it make you stupid.

You're giving them too much credit for devising a coherent plan.
 
Jerry knows he has a captive audience that will never leave him no matter how bad he abuses them. In that sense, he is actually quite a smart businessman.

Why pay more when the suckers will come regardless. Lack of talent or success does not affect his bottom line.

Yeah, but people hated on Jourdan Lewis for his size instead of his tape.

Just go tape with these guys instead of 'I think I can coach them up because they are 2 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier, but run same speed'

It gets played out and annoying. But I guess that's sports management and risk taking to get better.

Doubt it. Even HS coaches have more insight than that. They actually know the technique in and out and have an idea where people are with a degree of precision that the rest of us do not have. Plus they watch all the tape.

It's okay to admit our info and ability is limited and there's is better.
