we need:
a big backup NT
another linebacker
a FS
a backup center
another defensive end-backup
another corner

can do it all with the draft

I agree exactly with you.

I'm happy with what we've done with the OL thus far. I think we'll address it again in the Draft, but just not in Round 1.

I still think we may pick up a LB in FA, esp. if Fowler leaves (which appears to be increasingly likely). I'd look at Godfrey, Polk, or D. Edwards IF we could get them at reasonable contracts.

I wish there was also an alternative at NT to rotate with Fergy, but I don't see anyone available unless we were to make a trade . . . . I think we'll have to look at the Draft to shore up this position.

Put "Corner" at the top of this list.

We have a FS. His name is Watkins. We drafted him last year.

I don't think I could be happier. I would have preferred Steinbach, it made more sense to me - but we at least addressed the issue, ya know?

Time will tell whether it was the right play, but at least we made a play. There are plenty of teams with serious holes that seem to be just hoping they work themselves out. We're being proactive, and I like it.

Davis playing RG has more potential and offers a bit more versatility when you look at it...

If they were to end their free agent moves, I'd be satisfied.

I think another TE should be brought in for depth purposes. There are only two on the roster now.

a backup center and NT wouldn't hurt. Stanley's still on the squad, so maybe he'll do well enough to give Fergie a break.

I think tony curtis is still on the roster, and I dont recall if they actually released pierce yet. I do agree it wouldnt hurt to take another tight end somewhere.

I do think though this draft should be about getting playmakers around romo. We need to surrround him with as much young explosive talent as possible.

It will be hard to pass up a pass rusher at 22 if one of them slips, however because we need a third one.

IN my opinion we are set at the starting OL, backup guards and LT, maybe RT if McQ can play both. The only ? is backup Center, and that's not a position that should even be considered until guys get cut or the 2nd day of the draft when you may pick a guy late who has experience at C and other spots.

No way we should waste any more draft picks on DE's either...that's an insane thought....you have spears and Canty, ratliff and hatcher...no thanks.

NT may be a spot we have to look at if someone gets cut or if a really good NT/DT is available in the draft, but certainly not until round 3 or later.

LB? I think it is ridiculous to even talk about more money or top draft picks at LB. We have Ellis, Ware, Carp, and Burnett at OLB, James and Ayodele at ILB, not to mention guys like JR Gymph or whatever his name is....OLB, small college DE's are 2nd day guys in the draft, imo because you're just talking depth right now. If I was going to take a LB in the middle rounds, it would have to be a stud ILB.

More safeties? I don't think so...I really don't.

My draft choices?

#1 CB
#2 WR
#3 NT or FB, one that can run and catch and block
extra pick on day 1 via moving down or trading 2nd day picks = NT, FB, or OG/C

Day 2....QB, ILB, WR, CB, RB, OLB

I also think the first and second picks will go exactly like that due to the depth in the draft and our needs versus FA moves.

If not moving anymore backwards is considered successful, then fine.

I'm not gaga over Davis. He's not the answer that the Cowboys want us to think he is. He really hasn't produced anywhere the level that his draft position or this new contract called for.

If this guy flatlines on us, the screaming about what a dud Rivera has been and the cap we wasted on him will be totally drowned out by the new chorus screaming 'murder' if Davis plays anything like he did in 'Zona.

Which he easily can.

Which is not going to be what is needed or expected.

Will he be better than an injured Rivera..sure.

Will he be ALL-World..?

Not.

Will he change our offensive dynamic..?

I don't think so.

JMO.

And as for over paying Guerode and signing Brad Johnson..?

Again, if addition by subtraction by replacing Drew Bledsoe with Brad Johnson is an improvement, that's a stretch IMO.

I'd have much rather we not spent a fortune on the OL in Davis, drafted somebody to play there instead or give somebody we have a shot at it..

..and used our monies and efforts on getting a QB with some potential to compete with Romo and not be his caddie like Brad Johnson will be, a coverage FS to stop the hemorrage in the secondary and another pressure LBer or DL to cure the..

..two biggest things that ailed this team in 2006..

..the pass rush and defending the pass downfield and stopping the underneath short passing by the RBs that shreaded us in the last 5 games.

:bang2:

I think that too much is being asked of the Phillips schemes to overcome what is still a lack of talent in two very important areas. I think Dallas has done a good job of laying down a smokescreen with the press and fans so far with all this gushing about Davis and Guerode and now Columbo.

We had Guerode and we had Columbo last year and I don't remember them dominating any DL down the stretch. Is paying them both a Brink's Truck each going to make them All-Pro..?

I'm doubting that.

But the major cancers are still not being addressed..IMO. our opponents know this and they are not quaking with fear with this 'successful FA period'. I'm sure of that.

Much more is needed.

So until FA fixes these problems by ADDITION and not subtraction of players or the bringing in of players who haven't proven themselves after 6 years in the NFL..

..like Davis..

..is not something I can get excited about.

But it remains to be seen because FA isn't over and Dallas seems to be holding on to their cap dollars.

We'll see.

I'm sure all the BP fans would like Jery to sign a Rocky Boiman type player or a 3rd string TE... and a kicker or two!

is Vinny still out there?
