Their receiving corps is not really that scary, although as mentioned before our biggest defensive weakness is our secondary.

I wouldnt call the secondary our biggest defensive weakness. I thought they've looked pretty good all preseason. Personally, I'd say its out LB corps. :starspin

Now how many times have you guys "owned" the Falcons in 2 years? I'm just curious, its not like you play them 2 times a year.

Sure CBf72 , I'd be glad to respond to your inquiry ...

STATISICALLY SPEAKINGThe Eagles have not lost to the Falcons during Reid's tenure going 4-0 in that span. Two of those wins, including last year's NFC Championship, came in the playoffs.

Still doesn't mean a thing, we'll have to earn every yard -- and we will!

Fair enough. New season, new players, better players...who knows? I am just excited!!! Everyone here......including yourself Mr. Eagle, seems to be people I would want to hang out with and watch games with. Everyone here is knowledgeable, and knows everyone elses boundaries. NOW WILL SOME ONE KICK A DAMN BALL?

There was another great thread about the game posted yesterday - I'm looking forward to more SD/DAL threads as the week progresses.

There is no denying that the Cowboys are a much better team than they were last year, particularly on defense. But what really makes this game winnable is that the Chargers are missing Antonio Gates. I can't emphasize enough what a different team they are without him. Here is a stat that should stick out: almost two thirds of the catches that he had were for first downs.

Without Gates, the San Diego Chargers are a one dimensional offensive team. If you can keep LT to under 100 yards, and with their receiving corps I don't see why we can't, you can win the ball game.

I'm juiced for Sunday, can't wait until it gets here.

I'm being realisitic when I say we will win the game.

O-Line Big plus with three former pro bowlers and power or finnese at center.

QB Comfort zone with Witten, Glenn, and Price, Parcells will make sure he's protected.

Receivers a big plus Witten, KJ, Price, Crayton, Glenn

Running backs big plus whatever they throw at us we have and answer JJ mr. elusive, A train mr. power, Thompson mr. speed to the outside.

Secondary, plus with the exeption of Davis who I thought was questionable in the pre-season games I saw him in

Defensive line big plus

Linebackers some inexperience but I think with Dat and Signleton providing leadership it will be OK.

Special Teams average given a good punter and Cortez seems to be able to hit the end zone on kick offs.

Coaching I'm really starting to appreciate Parcells experience with the type of game plans he puts together. Now I believe we have the personnel to carry out those game plans.

The Cowboys new and improved seconadary will be the difference, with even moderate pressure Brees is good for at least two picks, and with Gates out, it's even better..24-13 Dallas wins!!

But where's everyone at. Or perhaps they think the CHargers will snatch this one? The Chargers are an up and coming team! Should be interesting, because you guys did so well in the draft this year.

I figure it will be tough to get a win out there, but in all candor I wonder if the Chargers aren't in more or less the same situation we were in going into last year-- coming off a good season that surprised people, but a good season built largely on the backs of a cushy schedule...

It really wouldn't surprise me to see the Chargers regress some this year... so my HOPE is that the Boys go in there all fired up, and make some plays, in the process shaking the Chargers' confidence...

FWIW, Phoenix, I thought you should know that your sig line goes back WAY farther than a John Wayne movie... it is in fact a centuries old Scottish saying, only instead of "a whole half hour", it simply says "an hour"...

This sucks! I actually like this guy. Anyway we do have some glaring weaknesses, but so do they. The game will not be one by LT alone, he is a great back but he isn't a whole team. Their receiving corps is not really that scary, although as mentioned before our biggest defensive weakness is our secondary. I still think that we can and will win the game although prolly only by one score.

Win or lose, it's only the first game of the regular season. By the way some of the opinions are flowing, this... game... could... go... either way!;)

Answering your title, I am DEFINITELY ready for some football. I just got hooked up with the DirectTV package and will be watching from the first day through the whole season!!! I am totally stoked.

As for our chances, I mirror Rack's post, but I do feel really good about the direction and the willingness to spend money and go out and get what we need this year. Last year seemed like a waste, but was worth it for this year's crop of new players.

I'm contemplating the same move to the NFL Package for satellite. Yep, you're ready!

Ok, I'll hold my horses, but only with you. Who is this corporate "WE" you're referring to? Let's see ...

you started your membership here in August 2005; I've been here since November 2004.

you are a "member" here; I'm a "Senior Member" here.

you have 33 posts here; I have 1,167 posts here!?! Apparently I've been discussing football with Cowboy fans other than yourself -- I sure haven't been talking to myself since November 2004!

hhhmmmmm ...

Ok, I'll lighten up on you this time --here's some words of advice, just because a person doesn't see eye-to-eye with you (explanation: I'm an Eagles fan -- you're a Cowboys fan), that doesn't mean I can't conduct discussion about football. I'm just as enthusiastic about my team as you are yours. Sure we'll clash on the subject Of yours versus mine, but there's so much more to football than just "mine is better than your."

What? No Hugh Douglas picture to accompany this?

I like you Hos (******, there I go thinking out loud again)!:p: When I first found out about Hugh Duglas being released, I was actually busted! Then I thought, what about some of my opponent buddies over at the "Zone." I really enjoyed placing Hugh's picture to accentuate my point from time-to-time. I wondered, who will be the first to bust my chops and notice the absence of Hugh's picture In any of my post.

Well, it didn't take very long! That's one up for you! But I'll remember that one.

Good one -- right across the chin with that one!:)

I didn't know that SilverBear. Since I've no reason to doubt your word, I'll make the adjustment. Thanks.:)

They did a study at Princeton with optimists and realists (pesimists). They found that the optimists accomplished much more and were happier because they were willing to try things that the realists thought couldn't be done.

The state of being Realistic is not being pessimisitc!

I'm not going to spend too much time on this side-bar, but there is plenty of information on this subject, located on the web -- if you are interested, look it up.

But there are distinct differences between pessimism, realism, and optimism. What was your point?

I thought it was fairly obvious but my point was that optimist live a better life than realists or pessimists. I have read about the subject a lot and most pessimists consider themselves realists. I also agree to disagree with rack that winning the game against the Chargers is optimistic.
