Are you satisfied so far with the off season?

We are now into April. 2 months since that awful SB. Because we weren't in it.

So far Linehan is gone, and we have Moore to replace him, which we will just have to see how that works out. But can it be any worse. I don't know, but I am excited to see what happens.

Garrett was not given an extension, which to me was right up there with Linehan gone.
As expected nothing earth shattering in FA. But they did keep a lot of their own players keeping the core depth. Though it can still be improved. Which is what the draft will do, bring in players to churn that bottom of the roster for better depth.

They made a great trade for Quinn, giving up less than many expected.

My only items was they still do not have DLaw signed, but it is not on the team, but I think something will get done. They addresses S and DT also, but still need more. Cobb, Austin, I think WR can be set.

So with all this now done, and it is time to focus on the draft to bring in players still at S and DT, DE possibly.
Wouldn't doubt they even go WR if one is there, or TE.

Irving is gone as many wanted him to be gone. Too bad he wanted to waste his talent. Gregory, well, time to move on, but now seems he will be around still through 2020, whether he plays or not.

But now we wait for the schedule to come out in a few weeks or so. Maybe some other FA's signed.

So far I like the way this off-season is going. with those few exceptions, but the good far outweighs the bad.

I like the acquisitions we've made, but I don't know if we've necessarily improved the team over just maintaining the level that we were at last year.

For example, I laud the trade we made for Quinn, but I'm not sure if Quinn is better than what Randy Gregory was becoming. If he ends up serving a year of suspension, we just essentially replaced the production we got from him. That's a good thing because we had to replace it, but does it make us better?

Does Iloka possibly starting instead of Jeff Heath make us better? Randall Cobb being the third receiver rather than Beasley? Witten coming back at tight end instead of Swaim? Covington and Hyder replacing Reid and Irving?

My hope is that at least some of those take us to the next level along with the development of the young players we've got. I just don't see any position where I can clearly say we made a giant leap forward.

I don't want that to sound like I'm not excited to see how it works out, though, because I am. I just need to see evidence that we are not just treading water.

They were definitely more active than I expected.

Heyder and Covington are interesting ads on the DL. Quinn is a potential coup. Cobb I didn't expect. Iloka at least will add better run defense on obvious running downs. I like extending Gregory for cheap while he is down. Fleming extension was needed. I think Olawale is overpaid but if we ever get a chance to see the athleticism that is possessed he could be worth it. Keeping Lee at a reduced rate is a good move. I don't know what to think about Witten coming back.

It all hinges on the Dlaw and the draft. If Dlaw is signed at a decent rate or traded for a decent haul I will be happy.

Draft - I hope to see a safety, a 3-tech, and a good RB in the draft. If the Dlaw situation isn't resolved favorably then we need another DE as well.

It has the makings of a good offseason but there is more work to do.

I'm not sure "satisifed" is the word I would choose. Satisfied implies content, and I'm not content as I still see work that can and should be done.

I'd still like to see a resolution to the Lawrence contract impasse, and I still think there is some potentially available talent to be added that would improve this team for 2019.
I'd say "so far so good" with room for improvement.

I'm satisfied with what the Jones boys have done thus far. The lingering issue is obviously the Head Coach. Until he prove me wrong otherwise.

If we can somehow get D-Law signed and his surgery scheduled with enough recovery time before training camp, and we somehow have a solid draft and get immediate contributors from the 2-5 rounds, I think JG will be set up almost as good as he was in the 2014 season, which in my opinion was our second best team since 1996.

Irving only played 2 games (56 total snaps in 2018).

Swaim missed half the season and playoffs.

I'm not expecting much from Witten but replacing Swaim with an aging HOF player seems like a break-even move. Maybe Witten helps a young first tome OC.

Iloka from a couple of years ago seems like exactly what they need. A big FS moving to SS. Heath and Woods remain which means anything Iloka adds is a bonus.

Gregory is a loss. Quinn is more refined pass rusher but Gregory despite his size is a much better run defender. They played Taco or Crawford at RDE in base with Gregory more on passing downs. Quinn just steps into that role.

Impossible to know about Cobb. At his peak he was better than Beasley and not as limited. Beasley's limitations added to the predictability of the offense.

Austin if healthy can take some of the Beasley snaps. He not the clutch player that Beasley was but he opens things up for other players because defenses play coverage differently against him because they respect his speed. Defenses didn't fear big plays from Beasley.

I thought Reid had potential when he was first signed but they cut him. When he returned I thought he was a tiny bit better than Ross; however, Ross missed the Rams game and Reid was too easily blocked.

Based on game footage Covington appears to be much better than Reid/Ross.

Hyder was very good in 2016. The Lions changed to a 3-4 in 2018 which was not a good fit. He is a better pass rusher than Crawford and similar run defender. A good RDE on base downs or a pass rushing DT on passing downs. I'm curious if S.Jones wants to replace Crawford and his 7M salary.

Frederick appears to be back. Looney played well but they missed Frederick's line calls coordination of the overall OL.

Looney now adds depth at OG as well as being a solid backup OC.

Cooper being in training this year should be a benefit.

Young players like Gallup, Vander Esch and Connor Williams should only get better. Xavier Woods now has a year of starting experience. The young TEs got good experience in 2018.

If Lee has any games where he is healthy that an above average 3rd LB.

Kris Richard will be in his 2nd year with the team.

Obviously if DLaw does not play they have taken a big step back.

They don't have to force a pick in the draft and should be able to just focus on adding talent.

Safety appears to be a deep position in this draft and DL is fairly deep also.

Can never tell until the draft is over, trades are complete and all FA signing are made or tags accepted. But so far I have not one scratch my head moment on any signing. So right now Im good but that could change depending on the draft...ect.

Not really...as it stands right now our DL has regressed.........I'm very disappointed in DLaw, has his asking price met then decline it only to increase another "asking" price..........I've never been a fan of our FO but don't fault them for not playing this game DLaw and his agent.......it wreaks of a big character flaw in both of them.

Running back still need to be resolved. A backup for Zeke. None of the new signees is top shelf, but money isn't wasted either. If DLaw insists on 22 milion per, then reduce the length of the contract, or reduce the guarantee portion. If none of that solves the impasse, trade him to Cincinnati.

Outside OC hire such as John DeFilippo

Reached extensions with Lawrence, Dak, Cooper, and Byron

Bring in a vet backup RB for cheap such as Spencer Ware or trading for Ronald Jones II

Not brought Witten back and used that on a TE entering his prime such as Demetrius Harris

Bringing in a big time DT Philon @ 2yr/10M, but there are still good ones such as Suh, Jernigan, Wilkerson, or my favorite value signing Danny Shelton

Would have skipped on the Cobb signing, and would have instead tried to upgrade the Noah Brown slot. Dez Bryant, Crabtree, or Demeryius Thomas make a ton of sense in that role and Dez signed for the minimum last year

Adding an additional starter worthy safety. Terrence Brooks, Boddy-Calhoun, or Adrian Phillips would have all made great signings. Position is pretty picked over now.

Last I seen they are supposedly looking at 5 years and not 6 years on the contract. So maybe that helps get it resolved.
