Arkin watch

Why oh why did Killer have to get that ankle injury this year? This was his shot to take control of the Center position and Pipp Costa.

BTW, it sounded like DeMarco Murray was intimating that Costa may be back soon? Perhaps it was just him hoping Costa is back soon.

Regardless I still maintain our best shot this year to field a leage average interior OL is to move Mack to Center and sign Montrae Holland to play RG. We won't have the athletic OL that Garrett covets but at least we should be able to play power football and our goalline running will be eons better than any year since 2007.

Seriously, if Costa isn't back on practice on Monday just bite the bullet and give in to Holland's demands. We actually have a team that can get into the playoffs this year now that the defense has turned the corner and all the skill players on the offense look great. Romo is at his peak right now. Ware is at his peak right now. Witten is at his peak right now. Miles should be at his peak if we can get his hammy settled down. Unfortunately, Rat has already started to slide. Fix this OL and give us a chance to compete against the Giants and Eagles.

A LOL play there by Arkin.

Arkin has picked up playing center very fast; I think those rumors that he was working on it during the offseason much be true.

That said he is not ready to start against top quality NTs and DTs. They will eat him alive.

But I can see him next season as the starting center very much.

He needs one more year to get strength and get used to playing center. Honestly I think he can be quite good there.

He has the foot speed that Costa just does not have.

The hits keep on coming. Third play of third drive. Look at where the rest of the O-line is. Looks at where Arkin is. He's either driven into the backfield or turned around looking at his defender running past him on at least 50% of the snaps.

The guy was driven 3 yards backwards before ROMO COULD EVEN COMPLETE THE HANDOFF!

Wait a minute, maybe its just the scheme the Cowboys run, because Costa plays exactly the same way............. just saying!

I'm sorry, but the offensive line still looks awful to me, and I commend Romo and Murray for succeeding in spite of its performance. David Arkin can actually snap the ball to the quarterback now, but he still doesn't look strong enough to hold up at center. The guards looked like they were getting pushed back into the pocket all night. Doug Free is a mess, and even Tyron Smith got beaten on the outside by Robert Quinn on a play early in the game. If the best thing you can say about the offensive line is that it'll be better when Phil Costa gets healthy, you've got a problem. At offensive line, I believe the Cowboys have a significant problem.

we do still have issues on the oline at center. I think the guards will be ok but im not opposed to grabbing one of them either.

Arkin is not a Pro quality center. He can't block. Costa or better yet, get Kowalski out there.
Our O Line has me scared big time. We look like one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.
If we can get our line up to the level of the rest of our team, we win a superbowl. With this sorry bunch?

If I were Jerry, I'd be on the phone looking to trade a second round pick and a player for a pro bowl center.

This team can win it all now. But not with Arkin.

I personally thought Arkin took a big step back last night...he was getting blown up repeatedly. He did have a few nice blocks, but they were more of the shield variety when you just get in someone's way. The next person he dominates will be the first. I think his technique is ok for his level of experience, but he just doesn't have the physical ability needed....the weight room has to be his residence for the next year.

People wishing for Kowalski really need to consider the fact that he has been dealing with an injury for months now without any evidence that a return to the field is coming anytime soon. And honestly, while he was pretty good techincally, he has a combination of the same warts that Costa and Arkin have. He is a smaller center with short arms who needs strength work. He played decently at times last year but would be exposed with more work.

Costa is the single best hope right now for the Cowboys at C. I assume he will be ready to go for the next practice as he was supposedly very close this past week. Costa has very good strength, we will have to see if he has improved his technique and will be better able to anchor. Costa is fairly mobile and can get to the second level and in front of screens.

After our starting 5, I think the only sure things would be Parnell and Arkin. Leary possibly because of his guaranteed deal, but honestly I haven't seen anything out of him thus far that makes me think he is going to be ready to contribute anytime soon. I think Kowalski goes on the PUP for now. Would be nice to find a decent C/G swing man in the cuts.

Honestly, do you think there is a pro bowl center out there that is available? I seriously doubt it.

We do have a few tradeable players that might be able to bring us a decent starter that could at the very least push Costa. I'd still kick the tires on Jeff Faine or Jason Brown.

LOL at the venom spewed towards Arkin, as if anyone said he was a pro-bowler.

Could just as well bust out a few screen-grabs lamenting AOA's play.

If there was someone claiming AOA should be a starter, people would laugh at him too.

How is that not obvious?

you guys are funny, Tyron can wiff on a play and some how its Arkins fault.

What's obvious is you're getting all worked up over a guy who started playing his position 3-4 weeks ago, which seems curious to say the least.

For the millionth time, I don't think anyone's pleased with the OL as it sits, but some fans are just looking for any sign of hope.

I think those who are "supporting" Arkin are merely pointing out that for a novice, he's actually done OK given the challenges presented to him.

No one's getting his bust prepared for Canton.

will see how this plays out, Costa was very marginal last year as our starter, has missed the majority of the camp. Arkin was thrown in there the last couple of weeks, while im not saying he a pro bowl center, i think he has improved every week, he may get pushed back on a couple of plays but that happens to all OL, i didnt see him giving up any sacks, and no penalties this week.

This was far and away his worst game of the preseason.

The obvious difference is that AOA probably won't even make the team, while Arkin may have to play a significant role.

And unfortunately, the Giants won't award him any novice mercy points.

Arkin is not the answer. I have seen him pushed around like a rag doll. Unfortunately Costa isn't that big of an upgrade either. I was hoping Killer would have been ready to go but that doesn't look like it is going to be the case for a while. (I haven't even heard an update on him in a while).

With that said, I'm not sure the answer is on our roster right now.

If the question is, who is the more direct cause of the hurried pass, I think there is a very clear answer.

and it was also our best half with our 1st team offense, it was so good that Romo and most of the 1st teamers got sat early.
