Art Briles for the HC job?

If and When Garrett is gone, how would Art Briles fit in as the HC?
With the national spotlight on him today, I was reading through his Wiki page, and noticed how he was turning around programs wherever he went as a HC. Now, I do understand its not NFL, but he sure looks like an interesting/exciting candidate for the job. I believe his contract with Baylor ends after the 2014 season. What do you all think??

Art Briles on Wikipedia..

A NY Times article on him

Sorry if the thread is in the wrong section, or if the topic has already been discussed.

Is there a better place for these threads?

Nothing but and asinine discussion at this point.

Driving that train... Like I was saying in the Sports section, he reminds me a little of Jimmy.

Though he's probably better suited as a college coach as good as recruiter as he is. And bigtime college programs pay as much as Jerry anyway.

So he might not -- probably wouldn't -- even want to. But his daughter does work for Jerry and you know how Jerry likes his familiarity. :)

Everyone has a right to an opinion, but these threads are indeed getting tiresome and haven't contributed much to the forum. The zone is for fans to talk about and debate news, games and players. But it has become a rage forum whether the cowboys win or lose.

I think Art Briles is a great coach who has a way with offense. But Jason Garrett is currently the head coach of a 5-4 Dallas Cowboys team and I think he can be a hell of a head coach, even if it takes five more years.

This is neither a rage thread, nor a Garrett hate thread. Was just curious about what other people's ideas were on this topic.

Regarding Garrett, I do agree with you, he can be a good head coach, probably four five years down the line. But with Jerry being Jerry, and the other factors like cap situation, I don't see it happening here and now.

How about we debate HC options if/when Jason Garrett is fired?

Novel concept I know.

The OP is spot on. ;)

No man, I understand. And you brought up an interesting coach in Briles. But doesn't it seem like every other thread revolves around dissatisfaction with Garrett? My issue wasn't really with your thread.

There is nothing wrong with discussing the possibility of Briles as being the next coach of the Cowboys. If Garrett doesn't improve on the 8-8 records that he has had over the last two seasons, it will be time for a new coach. For those that are content with Garrett and his process, maybe this isn't the thread to post in.

If the Cowboys wait five more years for Garrett to become a "hell of a head coach" we are doing it wrong.

Coaches have about the shelf life of any player. Three to five years maximum.

The best go beyond that.

No thanks. I don't know if his offense would translate. I'd rather not take a big risk on a HC

Honestly, considering we are currently first in the East and in the middle of the season, all the "Garrett should be fired" and "X coach should be the Cowboys' next head coach" should automatically be relegated to the Rant zone.

I think Garrett has had more than his fair share of on the job training and it is time for results. I keep reading about this team being different than the teams from the last couple of years. I sure can't tell it by the win/loss record.

JG has not shown anything that suggests he will ever become anything more than a .500 HC. If he has his 3rd straight 8-8 season, which were well on pace for, he should be fired. Why would we wait 5 years when we have a qb that is capable of taking us to the playoffs NOW. It's not outrageous for fans to be discussing a possible replacement when the team is yet again under performing under JG.

Agree completely!!! The only way we sniff the playoffs is by winning the pitiful NFC LEast division. It will not be because we are good but because we suck the least in this pitiful division. Of course with Garrett at the helm, if there is a way to not win the division he will find it. He truly sucks as a head coach. Briles would be an instant upgrade!!

He would be a better fit in a big time college program. UT will be in the market I think

To those of you ragging on the thread

1) it is a discussion forum
2) if you don't want to talk about it, then don't come in here and complain (if you don't have something nice to say, then say nothing as my momma used to say)
3) the OP didn't say we should bring Briles in to replace Garrett, he was looking at options IF and WHEN Garrett is gone
4) the negativity in some people astounds me sometimes....go for a walk, relax, play a video game when you are down in your basement (instead of ranting in here), your mom will make you a sammich or something, with a pickle slice if you ask her nice!
