Article: Beck ready to prove he belongs (as Dallas backup?)

Beck was second behind this kid...I have only seen Beck play about 5 or 6 times, which is not nearly as much as others on the board, but I will say he is a gamer and a competitor. I think he has the guts and smarts to play in the NFL.

His arm strength is better then I expected, which is a big plus for the kid. He has good accuracy and touch...that's what I noticed about him playing.
I was kind of surprised by his arm strength. His intelligence is what I like about him. Got to hear him and Bronco Mendenhall here before they played the Arizona Wildcats. I kept thinking we need a QB like that here.

If not Beck, I like the Zabransky kid from Boise State as a 3rd string guy to groom. He would need more work on everything except the gimmick plays. He has those down pat. :)

I'm an Idaho kid that went to Brigham Young and I root for both teams. That said, I would really be surprised if Z ever does anything in the NFL. He is a great athlete and throws a decent ball, but he doesn't always make the right decisions (such as the int. that led to the miraculous comeback in the Fiesta Bowl) Beck, on the other hand could become a great pro. The BYU system is similiar to a pro-system and he seems much more clutch than Z. Another classic game from last year's college season was the BYU-Utah game in which Beck led BYU to the go-ahead score literally at the last second. Also, the fact that Beck is second on BYU's all time passer list says alot considering he beat out passers such as Steve Young and Jim Mchmahon. If Beck is there in the 4th I say grab him.

Beck will already be 26 years old in August. He's sort of like Weinke, perhaps too old from the starting gate. By the time he develops, how old will he be?

How old was Roger Staubach? If you date back to 1966 as a fan you must remember him and how he showed up as a 27 year old rookie.

If he was 26 with wear and tear then it would be more of an issue, but he has the wear and tear of a 24 year old, and two more years of maturity...to me that is a plus.

This is my 4th round QB to groom as backup to Romo.

1. Romo
2. Harrington
3. Beck

Baker on the PS.

I could live with that this year.

Even though I never saw this guy play I heard one of his games on the radio and some other talk, they loved his play. Sounds like he has every chance to develop into a starting NFL QB just based off his play but I don't know about his measurables.

Does Beck have a Heisman Trophy and Staubach's credentials? Don't think so. His age will drop him on many boards.

Oh, I remember it well, the exception rather than the rule I would think.

I see it as a negative, and so will a lot of people. His Mormon mission took up some valuable career time.

That group sounds pretty good. We shall see what our illustrious GM thinks. LOL. What round will Beck be selected in?

That's what I'm hoping for! I hope he drops far enough so the Boyz can snag him...

;)

Which round could you seem him lasting to? I wonder which other rookies we'll consider. There will be much misinformation making the rounds.

I have no clue...but, really, whoever gets him will get a solid prospect. I don't know if you watch much BYU football, but, their program always produces excellent QB's every few year or so...and this guy is the real deal.

I bet 3rd round or so...if we got him in the 4th that would be a great pick imo.

Try 4 years. Many rookies are 21 or 22, not many are 26. Terrence Newman's "downside" was that he was 25 when he was drafted.

Missions are served at age 19, so that is not a concern.

I know this. You MAY go out on your mission at 18. He still did his which cost him 2 years not in college. That'd be why he's 25.....right?

No complaints from me if we get him, he'll just be a little longer in the tooth than your normal rookie. Could he push Romo for the starting job quickly? I haven't seen much of him.

Great value in the 4th. He had a good combine, doubt he lasts that long. Would we pull the trigger earlier?
