Article: Beck ready to prove he belongs (as Dallas backup?)

Does Beck have a Heisman Trophy and Staubach's credentials? Don't think so. His age will drop him on many boards.

Oh, I remember it well, the exception rather than the rule I would think.
Exceptions happen. That is the point.

The kid is smart, has a decent arm, and a good work ethic. I'll take that in a QB regardless of his age or whether he did service in the military or for his religion (which shouldn't even be an issue). It is a trivial and nonsensical thing to worry about.

Try 4 years. Many rookies are 21 or 22, not many are 26. Terrence Newman's "downside" was that he was 25 when he was drafted.
If I can have players who play as well as he does, give me more of this so called downside.

Age does factor into the equation...but, maturity has alot more impact then some young guy that can play, but, has a 10 cent head!

Combine the age AND experience after he came back from whatever mission he was on...that makes a BIG difference!

He's not all beat to hell up...he's been involved in football, he's mature...

I will take that 9 time out of 10 over some young hotshot that thinks he crap don't stink just because he got drafted at the age of 21...

I know this. You MAY go out on your mission at 18. He still did his which cost him 2 years not in college. That'd be why he's 25.....right?
And 26 come August.

All I'm wondering is if he's a good pick for Dallas. His age is close to Romo's. How many years until he can play? Would we burn an early pick on a QB? The guy's stock is rising, so how bad would we want him? Sure exceptions happen, but NFL careers can be short as it is. It just bothers me a little, not that big a deal if he can play.

Let's say he has a ten year career, which is dang good in the NFL, he will be 36. Take into account he had two years without contact...

Also - If we sign a 22 year old, unless he simply beats out Romo and becomes our new franchise QB...how long will he be with the Cowboys for his career?

I don't personally see this as an issue when you look at both the reality he may be with the team and look at an average NFL career.

This is not about him coming in and pushing Romo...this is about a player that is a VERY GOOD prospect that most likey will turn into a good QB in a a year or two...

It's called development...

I mean, look at you? You talk about age? You are supposed to be a fan of the Cowboys since 1845 and you still act stupid!

:D

So, you can see him passing Romo in a relatively short period of time? Why draft him if Romo's the starter for the next 8-10 years? Use a high pick for a long time backup, that makes little sense.

I'm not really sayin' that's a bad thing. But.......if he sits three to four years to learn that'd make him 28 or 29 to start. Not saying that will happen but it's a definite possibility. I would hate for him to light it up and be gone in 6-7 years. I'm selfish that way.

Also I'm not implying anything negative or otherwise about his religious path, just that his mission took 2 years out of his football life.

Where did I say that? Come on...!

This is a prime example of you being a prick...

Religion has nothing to do with anything here. I too would hate to have a great player for the shorter period of time, I'm "selfish" too.

If Beck's better than Romo, that's just the way it is. Let the better guy start.

Who said that?

Example if you being a prick, number two!

If a player we draft overtakes a current starter isn't that a good thing? I don't get the concern here.

Calm yourself and watch the language, pal. I thought there were rules here. I thought you implied that, maybe it was another poster. Nice short fuse, LOL.

Yes, you're right, that would be a good thing. A team with two quality QBs is in good shape.
