The Eagles will win the East next year, and not because of the signing of Bentley- Book it! How quickly some forget how they smacked every team in this division around for years-they had some bad breaks last year and I still think they are head and shoulders better than the rest of us pretenders in the East.

Could the Bentley story be a plant to start a bidding war? I hope so. Bentley will kill Fergie and his back up next year.

Bentley is a good player but nowhere near as dominant as some here believe. I wouldn't mind if Dallas signed him to replace Allen but he's not a make or break signing. FS, OLB, ILB and TE are much more important areas to upgrade for Dallas to have success.

Not surprising. I expect some big signings made in Philly and Washington this off-season. Why Washington? Because it seems like they always manage to make some big move.

Hopefully, we have a counter plan to make all of this moot.[/QUOTE]

We do. We just tendered Torin Tucker a one-year deal making him a restricted free agent. :lmao2:

Maybe, we won't make a huge splash, just Solid players like Chavous, Matt Bryant, Fabani and Ayodele, no household names, but they would greatly improve us at a low cost.

It is this bargain basement thrift shopping mentality that brought us the likes of Marcellus Wiley.

You must be crazy.

Terrell Owens tore that team apart and left smouldering ruins.

Well I don't like the mentality that you pay for a bunt while hoping to get a homerun. (ala carter and hutch).

But I do NOT mind if they get solid players for a decent price.

I think the wiley situation was a screwup from the standpoint that I believe they were looking at someone else, that someone else got signed elsewhere and they were left trying to hold their pants up so they settled with wiley.

One could argue we also are in this situation for overpaying for talent...trying to keep players past when we should have and paying two 1st round picks for Galloway.

There has to be a happy medium there somewhere, splurge on a good player if you must, get a really cheap player if you must, but just don't over do both.

However good solid players, for a decent price (not too high not too low) I would not mind if it helps solidify the over all team and depth.

a bunch of you thought the same things when they signed Kearse (massive free agent bust) and Owens (ultimate team cancer)

Bentley's a good player, but he wont make them a dominant team again...they have ALOT of other issues as well

It is just unbelievable to me that someone can make this kind of a comment after what happened last year. This game is simple if you keep your eye on the ball ie the game is won in the trenches not by FS and TE. The reason we didnt make a run last year was our horrendous OL play. If the eagles sign Bentley, a good tackle and Glover and we go with long tooth players like Mawae and Fabini, we are done.

People who dont learn from history are doomed to repeat it and it sounds like we are at the head of that line.

I truly do not understand the delusions people have had about him possibly coming here or that we'd even be interested in a high priced player like that. Since Jerry has taken over we have never put much high priority on the oline, instead relying on lower round draft picks to do the job and then rise up through the ranks. We've had our fair share of great linemen in that timeframe too. Maybe an aging stop gap player here or there from free agency, but never a #1 pick or a high profile free agent like Bentley. And it won't start now.

Same with linebackers, the other position alot of people want Dallas to go steal the market blind on. Jerry has never been in the business of paying LBs what they're worth. Coakley about the only one I can think of, the rest, simply opting to release them instead just prior to that big payday. Like with Ware, I honestly wonder if we'll even try to retain him once his contract is up. Moving up the ranks, much like the oline, doesn't seem to be an option in Jerry's eyes at linebacker. I'll repeat, Jerry just does not like paying certain positions money. And like a popular phrase Cowboy fans have come to recognize, you can't have steak on every plate---this is something Jerry understands very well.

Ultimately, yes, for the time being this is Parcells team, but don't delute yourselves, Jerry's backseat isn't that far back---nor should it be for the man who will be writing the checks LONG after Parcells has called it a day. This is Jerry's team and it always will be until he can no longer perform his duties and hands it off to his son. Bentley and Lavar (if released by the skins), nothing but fantasy land pipe dreams that most people need to wake up from or gonna miss the entire offseason if you don't watch out.

This great posturing by Bentley people/team. He's driving up the asking price.

Jerry Jones can jump in and match any deal.

Bentley is playing his cards right, I have no doubt in my mind that Bentley hasn't committed to the Eagles, he ain't no fool. Look at the Eagles history with treating veteran players.

I wish I was optimistic as you. I'm getting 2004 offseason deja vu all over again.

Because people think they know better.

Jones has already stated that they would not be going the high-priced route on the OL. They did it with Rivera. Too bad that didn't work out, but that is the way it is.

How can the Eagles legally have this wrapped up? smells bad.

Sounds like a an agent drumming up some business for his client if you ask me. I think there might be interest by the Eagles but I doubt if this is final. Let us wait and see on this one. Remember the days when a press report pretty much meant you could take something to the bank. If this is what I think it is, it's another example of how pathetic the press has become these days. I despise mediots.

No one wants Jerry to steal the linebacker market. I don't remember any posts at all at the Zone from posters who demanded Jerry to sign such and such at linebacker.

Offensive line, however, that was a HUGE weakness last year. Poor Bledsoe was getting knocked on his rear every snap. The backs couldn't find any holes. Both of our guards, however good they were at one point in their career, are done with.

Bill has yet to prove he can draft a damn good lineman for this team. Al Johnson is as good as he's done. You can't understand the delusions with people who want Bentley? Well, I truly do not understand the delusions with people who are adamant against this so much that they are even ranking threads 1 star that dare mention LeCharles Bentley. The man is a Pro Bowler, he can play center or guard, we're about to lose two huge salaries next year at his position, he's not even in his prime, he fills one of the biggest weaknesses on this team.... there will never be a more perfect free-agent signing.

Who knows if he'll really sign there, but this is why you can't count out the Eagles. They still have a good coach, a good QB, and plenty of cap space. This past rare bad year may have convinced them that they can't cheap out forever and continue to field good teams... IMO all they need is a true workhorse RB, a defensive lineman or two, and an upgrade at LB to be really good again...
