WASHINGTON -- The Federal Communications Commission Wednesday ordered Time Warner Cable to reinstate the NFL Network on systems the company acquired from defunct operator Adelphia Communications Inc.

The commission issued an emergency order to reinstate the network on a temporary basis after NFL Enterprises LLC complained the network was booted without giving subscribers the required 30-day notice. The cable network is scheduled to show 54 NFL preseason games and eight NFL regular-season primetime games this season. Preseason play begins Aug. 11.

Time Warner picked up about 3.5 million subscribers from Adelphia in western New York, Ohio, Texas, southern California, Maine, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the FCC records.

Good news, Bout time the Gubnent did something for the little pple.

Score:

Little Pple 1
Big Bad Cable Company 0

But it still early and a long ways to go before this games over. Cable subscribers, enjoy it now, I have a feeling they will still pull the plug on it in due time.

Anyone know what their problem is? If anything NFL Network attracts people to cable. Is the NFL trying to get Time Warner to do it for free?

The problem is the NFL is trying to get an extra $100 mill out of TW for them (TW) to show the programming.

Supposedly TW can't move the channel to a higher "Sports Lover's" tier or something like that due to some regulation or agreement.

TW isn't the only "bad guy" here. The NFL is trying to squeeze as much out of the cable companies as they can. Honestly it's a battle between two "evil empires" if you ask me. You have two monopolies battling it out.

The nfl wants the network on basic service just like espn which would reflect a price increase on all customers. TW wants to put it with their sports package where customers who want it would have to pay more than if it were in the basic package.

Dishnetwork was trying to do the same last year. They finally agreed to put it on the second tier package around September, but I believe just recently with the regular season games being added that dish has it on its basic package now.

I can't blame the nfl for forcing its way on to the basic package and I think nfl fans should want them to do this since its in their best interest price wise. Espn has done the same thing with ESPN2 and ESPNews in the past.

I won't be getting it here with Cablevision. I looked at switching to DirecTV, but I pay $99 (call the triple play) for TV, Internet, and phone service. DirecTV was easily 3X as expensive for the TV and if I wanted NFL Network it was much much more. NFL Sunday Ticket is an extra $279 hah. I shall be visiting a local watering hole 8 Sundays a season instead of shelling out $400 for satellite tv with NFL Sunday ticket. (They show about 8 Cowboys games a season here in NY area between ESPN and regular stations)

I have no idea what Time Warner cable is. I have Charter and they dropped the NFL Network after the season last year without any notice and even charged me for the next few months without me knowing. Does this mean that my cable provider will be ordered to have NFL Network or just this other cable company? If not, this truely sucks!

This is a true story. I have Dish Network - about 2 years ago, half their channels cut out as they couldn't come to an agreement with CBS or NBC or something. Dunno who it was.

Anyway - every half hour, their CEO (with his slightly southern, aw-shucks accent, cotton shirt with the sleeves rolled up, etc), would come on the channel and say "Gosh - we really want to come to an agreement with these fellas, but they are just asking too much money. They are big and I'm just a small time satellite provider. Y'all should write them and say stop being so mean."

So then you go to the other company's website, and read what the deal was - Dish Network wanted to renew the deal they had with no rate increase in royalties, whereas the other company wanted a 2.5% increase (which is NOT much).

Further that whole 'big bad company thing' was laughable - Dish Network ended up posting more revenue than the provider!

I hate companies trying to lie to me.

Yup, Chances are that Cablevision will be the very last on board with this. This is very similar to the YES Network thing that went on a few years back.

I had the triple play as well. Be very careful about that as you will probably get screwed with it in the end. Keep an eye on your cable bill. Cablevision has ways of messing with it, and don't be surprised if they yank the promotional pricing early on ya. Get as much as you can in writing.

But in the end, I'm stuck as well..unless I go switch to this new Verizon FiOS thing...hmmmmm.

i wish they could force them to supply it for all TW customers :(

Amen Yeager, I'm definately onboard that bandwagon.. I would think that if the courts can force them to carry it in those markets, they can undoubtedly carry it for everyone else.. I hate TW's decision to not carry it.. ..

So does this mean that people with Time Warner Cable will get the NFL Network now?

Front page of the Houston paper is showing Comcast is going to buy out Time Warner in 2007. However it did say TW will provide the service but the bill will come from Comcast. Not sure how this will affect people getting NFL network here in the Houston area.

I'm in my second year of the Triple Play. They raised the rates back to regular price. (about $34.95 per service) I fought with them for about 2 days and finally they brought it back to where it was plus $5. $104 a month. They said there were not allowed to allow customer to retain the Triple Play pricing. I was moving to a new place, so I told them Nope, cancel it. Then started a new account and got the $99 a month for a year again under my wifes name. :laugh2:
