White CBs are critisized more than black CBs. That's why there aren't many white CBs around anymore.

/sarcasm off.

I wish the article would have gone abit deeper and explained WHY there are no more white CB's in the NFL.

What physiological traits are required to excel in the position?

Without going into racial stereotypes, there are differences between the races which accentuate the needs at the different positions.

There's also a reason why there are no players of Oriental descent in the NFL, CFL, XFL, AFL, and 99.99999% of the college football ranks.

I'd love to read an indepth physiological study on the biological and genetic differences in the NFL.

It has to do with muscle fibers. People of West African decent tend to have more fast twitch muscle fibers which allow them to excell at sports that require short, quick explosive bursts, such as football and basket ball. Last time I looked there has not been one white person who has run a sub 10 second 100 meter time. Everyone who has, has been of west african desent.

There is nothing wrong with discussing race. As much as people like to say that we are all the same on the inside we are not. There are minor differences and there is nothing wrong with that. Even doctors say we are not the same. Why do you think that they say african americans are more suseptible to certain diseases? Why because were are a bit different genetically.

There also hasn't been a woman who has run under 10.49 (Flo Jo set that one in '88). We are talking about race so why not throw gender into the mix as well? ;)

There was a book about the study of athletes heritage and its role. I did not read it, but heard the writer in a couple of interviews. People with a heritage from different parts of the world had different natural talents. I can't remember the specifics, but for example people from the western Africa tended to be naturallly suited for sprint type events, people from the eastern portions of Africa tended to be naturally suited for long distance events, people from Scandanavian countries tended to be naturally suited for upper body strength and so on and so forth.

The writer acknowledged that nurture plays a significant part. A person's upbringing can be a big influence on their skills. That part was not the focus of the study. He just wanted to try and see if he could narrow down the nature part of it and the part it plays. He felt there was good enough evidence to show that it does.

I know the odds of anyone in my family line past, present and most likely the future will ever be a great NBA center. Tall height is just not part of our genetic make up. That doesn't mean someone won't be a great NBA player because it is more than height, but it is unlikely anyone will have the height necessary to be a center or power forward.

...maybe my son will be able to change all of that. He's (12) years old and ran at this year's University of Saskatchewan football camp 5.26 40 time.

There were (90) kids invited to camp. Nicholas was the 24th fastest. All the kids who were sub 5 seconds were 14 and under and all white.

I was told for kids in that age group Nicholas was doing really well.

I don't know if he will continue in football. The past two seasons he has really had a lot of fun. We'll see...

Dave, that sounds fantastic. Good luck to your son. It would be great to hear about him in 6 years. :)

Still, the lack of Asian participation in football intrigues me. Is it a parental thing? I played for 2 weeks in Div III JV before my parents told me to hang up the cleats and focus on my engineering schoolwork. What a bunch of close minded morons!!!

There are plenty of Asian Olympic gold medal athletes including power lifting, track and field, etc, etc ... but no football players.

Heck, I'm still waiting for a Shaolin monk to compete in the UFC. :laugh2:

Mmm hmm...but whenever someone discusses it frankly and points out that those of african descent may be lacking in an area (any area) the discussion quickly sours and the commenter gets called a racist.

THAT is why nobody discusses it publicly.

I'm guessing that they are at the same place that all the white point guards are... I remember Parcells saying a couple of years ago that a lot of CB talent was "stolen" by Div I basketball squads... Still though, I think the talent or potential talent is out there.. but maybe they are just not playing football.

Actually..now that I think about it, I'm suprised there aren't more asian CB's... seriously.. in almost any sport I have played, they are almost always the quickest on the field in change of direction and short burst speed.. of course most of them are 5'9" and 150lbs.. so that could be part of the reason that they are not playing football. Not to mention that most of their parents seem to want them to be doctors, businessmen, etc.. and not pro athletes.

:hammer:

It's ok to say something about a certain race, but not ok to say it about another.

Discrimination is alive and well....so is something called reverse discrimination.

I think alot of it has to do with where alot of the players are from. Midwest, Canada, Eastern Europe, Nordic Countries. Lots of white people there.

In this country, it's an expensive sport as well.

A thread like this bothers me a little. I am half German and my grandfather on my mother's side spent his entire youth being trained up to be the ubermensch through his Hitler Youth and Wehrmacht years. Fought on the eastern front, was wounded there in 1944.

A lot of the **** propaganda was centered around this study of racial differences, they put a lot of research and effort, plus a whole lot of propaganda, into the idea that there was an ideal racial heritage, and that racial background strongly influenced physicality and intelligence. They made an entire branch of psuedo-science out of it and used it to help justify the extermination of the jews.

I doubt that racial identity has that strong an effect on the outcome. Someone here said that environment was everything, that upbringing decides how smart, how strong, how fast you are. I agree with that sentiment to a very large degree.

If racial identity decided those things I should have had an easy path to the NFL, because I'm half a frickin' government experiment gone awry.

We're all Homosapiens. We all start with a basic template that we fill in over the years. It's my opinion that if you had two or more lives in parallel living in different locations, in 20 or 30 years time those clones of you would look, act, and be interested in totally different things.

that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with race.

and fast twitch muscle can be trained.

What about Dat? Look at what he overcame to be a great player...;)

Race does have alot to do with sports, but desire also has a lot to do with sports and anything else that someone wants to do.

There are thousands and thousands of football players out there of every kind of race...it's just the cream rises to the top and in most cases they are African American players because they have the desire to get out of where they have come from, while the Anglo Americans just let dad take care of him...like my damn son! But, I'm not an Anglo or an African American...I'm special...! ;)

I'm 6' 2" and weigh 192 and played baseball through one year of college...my son is 6' 3" and weighs 220 and is 17 years old and not fat and love exercise! I have always asked him why he does not to want to play football or some sport? He looks at me like I'm stupid and then walks away laughing! All he wants to do is go snag his guitar and play heavy metal with his group...! That's what he desires...I guess?

Momma always told me, "Son, life is like a box of chock...."...nevermind!

But my parents always told ME that if you put your mind to it...you can do whatever you want...and to always be a dreamer, and never a follower...

This is why life is so beautiful, because of all the different cultures and beliefs that we all live with...we are humans!

Right, because only black people are poor and live in bad neighborhoods.
