NFL reportedly fines Owens

Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - The NFL reportedly fined Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens for his take on the Bill Belichick cheating scandal.

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram on Wednesday, the league levied a $7,500 fine against the mercurial wideout for his touchdown celebration in Dallas' 37-20 win over Miami on Sunday. After his 34-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter, Owens pantomimed running an old-fashioned camera, an obvious reference to Belichick's videotaping scandal that broke last week.

Belichick was fined $500,000 last week for using video cameras to steal signals from opposing coaches.

Great celebration Terrell! I love it... :lmao2:

Great TD I can do without the 15 yarder and glad Wade Phillips said as much.

Why wasnt Chad Johnson fined?

I don't know and since he plays in cinn I don't care I only care about the Dallas Cowboys and our guys know what the rule is. I'm not down on TO but we can't be kicking off from our own 20 yard line. That helped set Miami up for what ended up being a fairly quick TD when time was running aginst them.

I do care. Whats fair is fair.

Agreed on the latter part. I have stated that more than once. I dont need celebrations... just TD's

I agree that if Chad did not get a fine he should have but that does not change the fact that Dallas got nailed for 15 yarder because of something that did not need to be done. As for the fine I don't care he knew the rule so evidently he was willing to pay the fine in the meantime Dallas kicked off from their own 20 and Miami was able to score without using too much time. Wade kindly told TO not to do this again and I hope TO listens he is a good enough player without doing this.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we should get behind TO. The freaking NFL has gone too far. They are doing their best to take the fun out of the game.

For those of us who are old enough to remember, I used to love to watch the Houston Oilers just to watch Billie "White Shoes" Johnson do his famous funky chicken dance. What about the "Lambou Leap", or the "Dirty Bird". End zone celebrations have been a part of professional football since I can remember. Now, even spiking the ball gets you 15 yds.

Many celebrations took place over the weekend. It was the fact that Owens used the ball to make light of the "Camgate" scandal that fired up Mr. Goodell, and brought on the fine.

Owens has said that nothing is worth the fines, so he's going to put the cabash on future antics. I can't help but think that we've all lost something here.

I guess because I never have cared for the "But he did this and got away with it" because in the end it does not help the Dallas Cowboys. There is an easy solution don't do those things and we don't get the 15 and TO does not get the fine. I don't see why that is so hard.

I liked the celebration. I thought it was funny and it took what, 2 seconds? Should be no big deal and no penalty. IMO
(the crap that C. Johnson pulled was way worse)

But, as we all know, it is against the rules, and it did cost us 15 yds, which I don't like at all!

But let's not get all carried away and blame Owens directly for the next TD, like some on this board are.

Most of Folks KO's went to the GL or inside the 5, and we stopped them up around the 20. So with the 15 yd penalty, his kick could have gone inside the 20, and we could have stopped them around the 35.

Was it too much to ask for the KO team to stop them around the 35 or so then?

Or was it too much to ask then for the defense to make them punt or hold them to a FG?

Did his penalty cause us to allow them to return the kick to the 50?

Did his penalty allow them to score in three plays?

Yes, 15 yds was on Owens, (and that was stupid) but the rest was on the KO team and the defense.

He needs to learn what he can and can't do, and then follow the rules.

You can spike the ball in the endzone you can't in the field of play. I'm not sure what there is to get behind? These are the rules just as offsides is a rule and if you do it the team pays for it and it is not worth it. To me the fun is the TD the rest means nothing.

I'm not down on TO for this I would say this about any other player who causes us to get 15 yards when it was preventable. Personally I don't think it was that big of a deal what he did but it is against the rule and it cost. So far this off-season and the 1st 2 weeks of the reg season I have no issue about TO. Wade evidently talked to TO on this and TO is good with it so I this is done and over and we move on.

You need to re-read my posts. I never said that.

I stated 2 different things.

Why did Chad maybe not get a fine. (Woody's Girl)

THEN

I stated that TO should not break the rules. Period.

I was responding to the "I do care. Whats fair is fair." sometimes things are not fair or do not seem even that is the way it goes sometimes.

I dont have to get behind TO on this one.
Its just too much of a penalty. IMO.

Even the Shockey penalty for punching the ball into the ground was stupid. Shockey is too.... too much penalty and changes the game. These guys are wired and play with alot of emotion. Its not like us posters sitting at a PC :lmao2:

I played the game through college and in college you can't spike the ball at all and most do not have a problem with it and yet can maintain their high emotions none the less.

We are not talking about College, are we? So you change the area to make your point?

The NFL is SHOWTIME. College is not.

Players in the NFL are on the GRAND STAGE. They are marketing themselves. That part has been taken away from them.

Keep your helmet on (Emmitt) so they cant see your face.
No fancy celebrations to draw attention to yourself. You may get a sharpie commercia or something

All I was saying was blaming Owens for the TD was letting the KO team and the defense off the hook a bit.

The defense could have gone ahead and stopped Miami & made them punt, or held them to a FG attempt and it would have been fine by me.

Owens gave them 15 yds, the other 85 was on the KO team and our defense.
