Honestly making the playoffs this year alone will have exceeded my expectations coming in from last season when the defense was just torture to watch...

I'm not one of those delusional boys fans that says super bowl this season! but realize we are a good piece or two away(mostly on the defensive side obviously) away from challenging for one..

I'm not weighing in one way or the other on Garrett, but it sure is funny how the criteria to extend him changes each week. Before the season began, I heard more than one person (some in media) say that if he goes 8-8 with this defense, he should be considered for coach of the year. Then when the team was 6-1 and everyone was riding high, it was he should get extended unless the team totally flames out the rest of the way. At 8-4, he didn't flamed out, but the criteria became "extend him unless he loses out". They won last night, and now it's "extend him unless he loses out" again. Not saying that was you, or anyone in particular, but just the fan base, in general. In a nutshell, it's comical.

Completely understandable.

I felt if they went 8-8 again this year that there would have to be at the very least a very serious discussion about firing him. I didn't know if they would or not but I felt it would have to be a discussion at the very least.

I've maintained since the 6-1 start that he would get an new deal after this year provided we didn't completely fall apart and watch in horror as this team missed the playoffs because they finished 8-8 or something.

I really do feel like, at this point, that unless they go 0-3 the rest of the way and miss the playoffs because of that, that Jerry will now extend him for sure.

IMO, JJ has already seen enough to extend him. From everything I've heard/read, JJ really did/does not want to fire him. I think in Jerry's mind, even if they miss the playoffs he can justify to the fan base that the team is headed in the right direction. In this case, I happen to agree with him.

Interesting.
Points are stats. Important too

Points matter when they exceed the competitions points, that's why only one team typically is called... Wait for it....

The winner...

We need a defense that can hold the other team to nine points or less because Romo holds us to about 10 when we face better competition..

Pretty silly huh? That's how it sounds everytime somebody complains about the hodge podge defense we have while the offense is built and paid to take on China itself...

I'm not impressed when we blowout inferior teams like the Bears. I wanna see us put up 35+ against somebody like Green Bay, New England, or maybe Philly..

Praying for crow Tacos....

You mean like the 30 AT Seattle...which is a tougher defense and place to play than all of those you mentioned?
It's embarrassing to call you a fellow fan.

That 30 points is more than any team has scored in Seattle this year, last year, or the year before.
Among the opponents were...wait for it...Green Bay, New England, New Orleans, and Philly.
None scored more than Dallas (and poor Tony Romo) did.

As a Cowboys fan...I would really wait until the season is over before I start talking and thinking about Signing the Ginger to another contract. I would also FIRST like to see if they can keep Linehan, Callahan and Rod before I make my decision.

I don't know that Garrett has improved at all.

If not for Linehan, Callahan and Rod. We are maybe 8-8 this year.

Sorry, that's honestly what I see here.

I think it's always been a forgone conclusion that Red would be extended.

I have my doubts about this teams ability to go deep into the play offs but
they surprised me this year thanks to Nellie's Cultdom.
It's a process.

What about Jimmy Johnson did he do it with out those great coordinators?
I read right here this season that Johnson's coordinators were hands down better then the current staff?

Jimmy = field general
Garrett = not so much

Jerry's a splash owner we all know that. JG would have had his extension by now if Jerry thought like a rational person.
He's not pulling the trigger for some reason.

I think Garrett assured he will be back next year after last night. Most people thought this would be a rebuilding year and we would be lucky to win 6 games (I predicted playoffs if we stayed healthy... and 8-8 if we had the kind of luck we have been having with injuries)... if we somehow get 10-11 wins, and miss the playoffs, one would have to say it was still a step in the right direction and something to build on for next year. You don't fire your HC when you are having something to build on.

I am saying that your examples are not equivalent. You yourself knows that JJ walked around
as a field general [fine] but his Co-Ords did the in game task same as Red.
Red isn't a JJ nor should he try. Red will be a damn fine coach and is taking us to the play offs
\for more years to come but some people refuse to see. Thats fine but man up when the proof
is on your TV

He may very well turn out to be a damn fine coach. That was my thought/belief early on.

Proof on tv - team does not look prepared STILL. adjustments take too long

That was more the Demarco Murray/O-line show and Seattle took a four game dive...

This team finally has an identity, we are an establish the run with our oline, playaction off the run game, time of possession winning team. I have been asking the question for years "who are the Cowboys" and now I have my answer. I have been very critical of JG but if he gets to 10 wins then he definitely should be back along with the rest of the staff. Establishing an identity will definitely help in the draft room because we should go defense heavy next draft.

I don't think there's any way the coach should get away with not making the playoffs after a 6-1 start. The team was not supposed to be good, but things change rapidly the NFL. The entire reason why I'm firmly Anti-Garrett is because he hasn't made enough progress in the time he's been here. If he can't make the playoffs after starting 6-1 it's just even more confirmation that he's not our guy. You can turn around an NFL team in a year, there's no reason this shouldn't be a playoff team 4 and a half years in.

If Jerry were a rational person Jason Garrett would already be gone.

He's staying regardless of how the rest of the season plays out. Book it...
