As Cowboys fans, we should support Goodell wholeheartedly

Goodell can die in a fire for all i care, he did nothing to stop the collusion from the other 30 NFL owners to screw the Cowboys and Commanders franchises..

Maybe he has to "power" to step in, maybe he doesn't. I'm not keen on what authority the NFL commish has, but that should've NEVER happened.

Supposition? There's over 100 pending lawsuits that the league is facing right from former players. That number is growing rapidly.

THAT is what could damage this sport, if these types of cases begin to gain traction, particularly at the high school level. School districts don't have the resources to fight these cases, especially if they actually lose some of them.

No high school programs? Then what?

Maybe society will decide one day soon that football is just too dangerous to play?

Also, the game is not as good a measure of excellence as it used to be.

If you think of the NFL game as a test of which team is better, the current game is less reliable in differentiating better teams from worse teams. Games are now more likely to be decided on low probability plays and/or which team happens to have the ball with time left on the clock.

I agree with your overall point, but what do you mean by low probability plays?

Have to be honest Rich, I find myself growing away from NFL Football more each year. I love to go out and watch PoP Warner or YAFL, even High School football more. I even like College Ball more it seems. I think you are correct in your assumptions. The League is slowly killing it's fan base.

I used to watch the Sunday 1pm and Sunday 4pm games at a bar. Then re-group and watch some of Sunday Night football. I was not a fan of MNF, but I would catch some of that as well.

Now, I only care about catching Cowboys games. I don't show up to watch the games at 1pm if Dallas was playing at 4 and vice versa. And I didn't even watch any Sunday football if the Cowboys were on MNF.

The NFL isn't as fun to watch anymore because there is an incredible lack of variety in the styles of a team and what it takes to be successful. That's what I liked about the Niners. They found innovative ways to run the ball effectively and then played with a tough defense. Otherwise, I just see a lot of shotgun and dink and dunk. Get in trouble? Throw it deep and get a PI call. Well, that's if the ref actually knows how to call it correctly.

Baseball used to think the same way as well, but I had a real hard time believing that Brady Anderson could hit 50 home runs based purely on skill. Or that Sosa, McGwire and Bonds could routinely break Maris' HR record purely on skill. So when Matt Stafford throws for over 5,000 yards it doesn't really impress me or make me think I need to go and see him play because he has legendary passing skills.

The only thing Goodell has gotten right IMO is how the draft is handled these days, being in primetime and broken down to 3 days with shorter breaks between picks.

UFC is human dog fighting. Nothing more.

You are quite of base it is just like boxing except every art is allowed and their are rules. Plus the dogs have no say in the matter and the UFC fighters have chosen to fight by their own free will.

Now if you want to talk human dog fighting you have to go back to the Roman Gladiators days. Probably could see that happening in some of these 3rd world countries ran by warlords as well.

I would venture to say that, proportionately, the NFL has 10 times the thugs the NBA has.
The NBA does have way more prima donas but they is mostly trash-talking low lives vs. the violent low lives in the NFL.

Although I like Goodell's stance on safety, I agree with a lot of this. I think the only thing left to really be impressed by, something that would stand the test of time, would be a dominate defense like the Bears had in this era of the NFL, but it's just not gonna happen.

Even if the NFL loses those lawsuits and is required to pay 100s of millions in damages, the games will still go on and those stadiums that we paid for will still sell out. Baseball showed this back in 1988 when they paid out a $280m i damages.

I do not get behind this notion of getting behind him fromt he notion of the future of the game. Him coming down on the Saints limits his liability and protects the NFL's wallet but has no impact as to people wanting to watch the game. Bounties are hardly new.

At the end of the day whther or not there is a settlement or lawsuit, contracts will have waivers of liability will be included in contracts and if people were hurt through negligence then Goodell needs to concentrate on making that right nad not worry about his cash flow. I'm not going to get behind the ultrarich getting more ultrarich. Sorry.

If you really want to worry about the future of the game then look to how he screwed us over and how we or more importantly the Commanders respond. Admitting collusion publiclly does not bode well for the future of the game and they assisted in a future labor impasse by breaking antitrust laws without a CBA. I'm not going to get behind him on that.
