If the New England Patriots fail to sign Asante Samuel to an extension and he hits the free agent market, Dallas needs to make a big surge to get him. He is only 26 years old and is a proven ballhawk. He would be the perfect addition to our secondary, playing opposite Terrance Newman. This of course, is assuming that Henry is moved to fill our FS void. I would much rather get a young talent like Samuel that we know can play, instead of gambling with a high draft pick to find another corner (again, assuming Henry is being moved to FS). We could use the draft picks on other needed areas like, the offensive and defensive line.

I would be shocked if Jerry is willing to pay the kind of money this guy wants.
On ESPN, they said he got a tattoo that says "get paid" Can't have all you money tied up in db's

I would love the guy, but it seems like NE free agents don't look nearly as good on other teams. Big loss for NE though.

i think dallas might be more inclined to sign the patriots other UFA CB in randall gay. because of the cost factor. asante is going to be asking champ bailey type money. or atleast ty law type

IMO our underachieving secondary is already being paid big bucks (two 1st round top 10 picks and henry FA deal)..if we are going to spend money it has to be towards the defensive line or linebacker area to actually generate a pass rush to make life easier for the secondary and the entire team

Yep, too much money tied up in Newman, Henry and Williams. We however might sign some like Randall Gay or Rodrick Hood from the Eagles, the can start and be low cost options.

Hood is a scrub...

Might as well leave Henry there and start Watkins back there. The only way I would say move henry back to FS is if and only if...

1) A first round corner was drafted and PROVES he can start from day 1 (not likely)

2) Clements or Sameul come to Dallas

3) Deion is cloned and returns for 1/32 of the cost..

Let's not forget who signs the checks. Jerry wants to win at any cost. If he thinks signing another high priced FA will help this team win, he will do it.

:hammer:

This team needs a Cortez Kennedy-type force at NT. A huge 330 pound lineman that ALWAYS gets double or triple teamed.

Yet another player comes up huge in his contract year.

I don't even think Buffalo fans want Clements.

We will not get into a bidding war over this guy.

At some point you have to build from within.

I think we could make a splash for one bigger name FA but I don't see us breaking the bank for anyone.

I wouldn't be too fond on it. He's a good player, but even if we want to move Henry to FS, we still have Reeves or we can use Aaron Glenn if we are in a pinch. But then again, we still have plenty of cap room. Still, I think right guard, backup nose guard, backup left tackle, free safety and outside linebacker and inside linebacker (if we can't get the Bradie mess straightened out with Carpenter) are bigger issues.

You KNOW he'll sign with Washington and Lil' Dan. He always overpays for guys like this. i'll take Gay or Clements-better value.

It's obvious some people on this board have never seen Randall Gay play a down of football. If you think he's going to be a starter on any team in the NFL, I would suggest calling someone in New England first. Gay not only sucks (and hasn't started a game in two years) but he's also always hurt. He lined up with the Patriots third team defense this preseason before getting hurt. There was a chance he was going to get cut before the season even started if he didn't get injured. Seriously, if you guys think Randall Gay is some kind of answer, then you are just reading names off a free agent list. He's garbage.

If we could get Henry to take a pay cut & move to FS, I would love to use the saved money on Samuel. The dude was incredible all year, and especially in the playoffs. He tied Bailey for the league lead with 10 ints., so he should get close to the same money.
Just think, with Samuel & TNew at CB, and Henry & Roy at Safety, we would have quite a secondary---if they can communicate & cover the freaking deep ball & FBs.....haha. That, of course, is a coaching issue, as well.

Then he better be prepared to pay a signing bonus in the range of 15-20 million. That will be the going rate for clements and samuel when free agency hits. I want to upgrade the offensive line.
