Well, in the 90's we couldn't buy a guy on a whim either. It went and cost us in the late 90's and early 2000's as we were in cap hell!!

We could back load 1 contract and stretch it over 5-6 years of cap hit. The guys to do that with are YOUNG guys, not 30+ aged guys. That's why I come up with name Samuel. He's young enough you can give him a stretchy contract that doesn't kill your cap.

I doubt you can realistically sign a TO, or Hotel to a 5 year contract. Not a real 5 year deal. Samuel you could, with the hefty signing bonus and then the rising salary type deal. Jerry doesn't seem to mind shelling out the big millions up front if he can keep that cap alive now.

Are you suggesting we don't pick up anyone of worth in free-agency. You don't really get many guys of note without paying. Hamlin was a rare occurence, but of course we'd need to pay something for him now anyway. Can we achieve Super Bowl, purely by adding from draft this year? If we take your route (which I do understand, just would rather see one major hole filled with a proven winner), then I would like to fill in some spots in free-agency that might not cost us much. A veteran FB behind Anderson (I think Hoyte is too one dimensional). A punt returner if a stud isn't found in draft (often WR/CB draft picks can pull this duty, we just don't seem to find one though). An inside lber for depth? Prefer not to use draft picks on lbers any more. Maybe an offensive guard, especially if they consider putting Bigg out at left tackle. Plus for depth. Gurode didn't play well at guard, don't move him back. Berger/Proctor might be ok, but they are a step down from starters.

Asante Samuel, who has developed into one of the premier cornerbacks in the league, is set to become an unrestricted free agent and per the terms of a previous deal the Patriots gave up the right to franchise him.

LCB Terence Newman (age 29)
RCB Asante Samuel (age 26)
FS Anthony Henry (age 31)
SS Ken Hamlin (age 26)

Samuel is too expensive, think Drayton Florence:D

Samuels is looking for a big pay day. Why would he accept a back loaded deal?

He may accept one but I doubt Jerreh and his kid are going to offer one that's backloaded. Jerreh has said they aren't going into cap hell again, and the surest way of doing it is with backloaded contracts.

Samuels won't be a Dallas Cowboy.

I'd sooner believer if we sign a FA it will be at the WR position. The secondary help will be coming through the draft.
