I've seen a lot of complaints about the Cowboys not drafting an olineman earlier in the draft. Their 5th round pick Asim Richards is getting a lot of good reviews. He has actually looked pretty good at left tackle.
He is probably the long term LG. Its good to see that he may actually have an NFL future and not just be an interesting prospect

For once Rambo, I agree with your accessment. I just wish he wasnt the draft pick I felt best about to this point in the pre season. Looks like he can make the jump to productive starter at some point.

Very true.

It’s right tackle that I’m worried about. If something happens to Steele, I’m not sure we have a capable backup.

I'm not an O-line guru, but from my "eye test", Richards seems to hold his own. And that's a good thing. I agree with the above poster about our back-up RT. Does Richards get any practice at RT?

Lot of complaints about the offensive line backups but Richards has played well with his opportunities. Glad to see him doing well and definitely the standout amongst the backups.

If Chuma can stay healthy I think hes also a guy that could fill in and play solid, but his injury history makes him highly suspect.

Farniok has had a rough offseason, which is surprising becauase he played solid last year.

Ball played a little better in the last preseason game but dont have confidence at this point. Waletzko allowed a lot of pressure from his side. I wouldnt be dissappontes if the Cowboys cut either player..

He’s still been up and down, I’ve seen him get lost on blocks too.

I just can’t imagine they don’t try to add another olineman before Sept, this depth is a bit scary

Richards has been a pleasant surprise. The Cowboys said he needed a year to get stronger but so far he he has looked pretty respectable. Great observation!

I agree, he has looked quite promising. If Ball has been as good as some posters have said, I think we are in pretty good shape depth wise.

It's really good if a 5th rounder is showing you game immediately. Especially at a slow-developing position.

Guards usually don't "mature" until year 2 or 3, so IDK if he's ready to step in right now opposite Tyron. But if Richards could have a McGovern type career arc? That'd be a huge win.

He was a tackle and so he is performing good as tackle against 2nd teamers , but as a guard will he hold up against 1st string DL has to be seen. But with Waletzko’s injury can he be servieable as back up tackle ?

need to be seen .

If the season were to start tomorrow, I think Richards would slated to be the lead swing backup at BOTH OT roles.
.. as well as the immediate backup at LG.

That may have to be Martin with someone else moving to RG.

They are really playing with fire up there and not much can be done about it at this point in time.

Dudes like Ball and Waletzko can’t be counted on for one reason or another, but they are counted on.

Richards looks better than most right now but he is playing against backups. Doubt he is ready to start.

Pretty much boils down to that this team can have a dominant OL if there are zero injuries. It can also easily ruin the season quickly if there are more than one at any time.

I like him too, but I do not think he has looked great at LT. He has been okay. But I think he has a future at LG. He moves people run blocking and is better when he has a narrow lane to protect. He needs to get stronger.

.he's not bad, from what I've seen. The guy is up for the test.

Moves pretty well, has descent blocking skills.
