I've seen a lot of complaints about the Cowboys not drafting an olineman earlier in the draft. Their 5th round pick Asim Richards is getting a lot of good reviews. He has actually looked pretty good at left tackle.
I feel pretty good about him and Bass. It may turn out that Ball and Waletzko weren't worth their picks, but when you are picking from the fourth round on, it's all hit and miss (it's hit and miss at any point, but more misses than hits the deeper into the draft you go). At this point, Edoga, Richards, Bass and Farniok might be our line depth, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, just mostly unproven.

Lot of complaints about the offensive line backups but Richards has played well with his opportunities. Glad to see him doing well and definitely the standout amongst the backups.

If Chuma can stay healthy I think hes also a guy that could fill in and play solid, but his injury history makes him highly suspect.

Farniok has had a rough offseason, which is surprising becauase he played solid last year.

Ball played a little better in the last preseason game but dont have confidence at this point. Waletzko allowed a lot of pressure from his side. I wouldnt be dissappontes if the Cowboys cut either player..
Hoping we stash Waletzko on IR for another year. We need to remember he's coming from a smaller division and was injured for a lot of last preseason. This has been his welcome to the NFL moment. Let's give him a chance to adjust before we throw him out.

He's a project nowhere near ready to play.

Cowboys back up OL is among the league's worst, and our best backup is hurt. I'd wager Cowboys will trade for a vet OL before week 1.

Feet are good, athleticism is there, strength is lacking. The guy needs a year of weightlifting to be set, but he's got a lot of raw ability to work with.
Yep. 13 reps at the bench-press is not very good at all from a lineman. Off the top of my head, Biadasz did 25, which was the least out of the starting 5, with Tyron doing the most, 35. So as you can see the 13 he did is not good.

The world is his oyster, that is where AR stands, and that is a great place for him to take advantage, we need somebody to finally take advantage of OL depth..

He is probably the long term LG. Its good to see that he may actually have an NFL future and not just be an interesting prospect
He did decent at LG but still needs development and mainly strength at guard.

LT is where he looks really good

Very true.

It’s right tackle that I’m worried about. If something happens to Steele, I’m not sure we have a capable backup.
It will probably be Tyron, Tyler bounces out to LT and either Edoga, Richards or Ball to LG.

My concern is the group of guys we have who many thought we could depend on last year and went into this year thinking would step up and be our depth still haven’t done anything. I’m just left hoping we cut them because we found someone better. That includes Ball, Waletzko and Farniok. I don’t know what people are seeing in this group that makes them think they are talented after watching them.

so when I see Richards do ok and I see Bass do ok (albeit later in the games against the backups backups) I probably get a little too hopeful that the first year rookies and UDFAs can step up and play if needed because the returning ones were and are part of the problem. I also hope a healthy Edoga can be useful and one of the first guys off the bench. Lastly I still think our biggest need is adding a veteran OL like Pugh with flexibility and who will be a game day backup And push all of these guys down one notch on the depth chart. Unlike most teams our backups aren’t insurance or for the “just in case” Scenario. Tyron WILL miss time and someone else might also. I don’t know what we will do at center because Farniok and Hoffman just don’t seem like even emergency backup level talent to me or should I say at least right now. Who knows about the future.

so back to Richards, I’m hoping he continues to impress.

I like what I’ve seen of both Asim Richards and Alex Taylor the former Bears signing they brought in last year. I think both have surpassed Ball and Waletzco is out again with injury . With Zack Martin back at G Farniok can go back to being interior depth . The OL is in not as bad shape as first thought .

Being on IR for another year won't help him. He needs reps on the field.

Outside of the top 100 the hit rates fall below 1 in 5.

I agree with that. It seems like the shoulder may be a temporary thing, so we could go IR initially and then bring him back when a roster spot inevitably opens. Got to have some inactives anyway, so it doesn't really matter who they are.

He was a tackle and so he is performing good as tackle against 2nd teamers , but as a guard will he hold up against 1st string DL has to be seen. But with Waletzko’s injury can he be servieable as back up tackle ?

need to be seen .
He started at LT both games was playing against starters and did well

The key word here if you read the Coach compliments - SMART player, disciplined, few mistakes. Always good for linemen. Some positions those admirable traits doesn’t result in same dividends. Doesn’t seem to repeat the same rookie lineman mistakes. The comments go back to his college career but seems like it was missed in his scouting reports.

actually, he's not, can we stop pigeonholing and flexing players in the positions they're not comfortable in...

that's what gets the team in trouble and he didn't look good at left guard but as soon as he got a shot at left tackle, he looked better,
that means he's going to be a better left tackle... how about this it'd be crazy Tyler Smith stays at left guard for the future and the suddenly Richards goes next to him and all of a sudden, we have two positions filled?? Richards as his natural position is T.. So given the fact that that's what we've seen in camp and in preseason so far I'm making the guy the swing tackle, why not?if that's where he's potentially best, that's where he should play stop moving players where you think you need to fill a holes...

Right now the words out I mean I think Farinpk and Hoffman will be the guard center/ replacements ,so far that's what we've seen..

And there's some other guys on this team like will Edoga make the team and how will he play and where..

Let's simply hope our offensive line starters stay healthy most of the year and we don't have to start flexing guys around.. But like I said we have Wally and now Richards who are best at being tackle so let's just develop them as tackles and see who wins.
