Assistant DL Coach Sharrif Floyd preferred another 3 tech prospect in the 4th round

This interview took place right after the Fehoko pick. New Assistant DL Coach Sharrif Floyd does something here at the 10:50 mark of the video that I've never heard a coach do before. He admits the guy he got wasn't the guy he really wanted and even named his preference. Which was Oklahoma St. DE Tyler Lacy, that they also viewed as a 3 tech like Fehoko.

Lacy was selected by the Jaguars with the very next pick.

Just something to file away in your memory bank.

I don’t think McClay has heard a coach do this before and I’ll bet you don’t hear this one do it again.

I don't get this. They picked him at 99, not 65.

The hit rate for corners - or really any position - at that point is pretty low. The comp picks that year were:

96. Ronnie Perkins, DE
97. Tre' McKitty, TE
98. Quinn Meinerz, C
99. Nashon Wright, CB
100. Elijah Molden, CB
101. Ife Melifonwu, CB

Meinerz is the only hit there, to this point, and it's not like he's an All Pro.
They HAD to take a corner with a late round grade there, especially after fixating and reaching for Joseph at 44?

That entire third round, all three, are headed for bustville. This is a ‘find starters through the draft only’ team.

Say what you like about OO, yet according to Floyd they are still looking for a 3t.

Golston is a zero impact guy.

I’ll say it again…I’m happy to have Quinn as DC, but as far as I’m concerned he can stay out of the draft room.

The influence they gave Marinelli and the results only confirms what Mike Holmgren once said in a pre-draft meeting, pointing at each….”you coach, and you scout.”

The people at the top of the organization ought to know what they want overall, and a probably a big reason why this severe drought exists, but Jerry thinks he is great, and that his son must be also. Meanwhile neither is qualified.

Idk what your point is but your expectations for what you can draft in the third round is way off.

Yep, some had Lacy in their 20 picks.

No he wasn't. It is you that are hearing what you want to hear.

He wanted a 3 tech. Lacy was his guy. Oh well he's gone now anyway. Thats what he said.

They weren't going to draft two 3 techs.
I'm not sure honestly. They asked if he liked anyone for the next picks and he said Lacy was gone. They even asked him if it was a decision between Lacy and Fehoko and he said no.

I knew they had some interest in Lacy
I think Fehoko is the better pure rusher and has a higher motor compared to Lacy but I do not know if that will work with him as a three tech and not just an occasional DE spot.

I think they will try to use this guy like they used Tyrone Crawford. I think they are always looking for that guy they can line up in multiple positions for various schemes.

Personally was not all the high on Lacy. I don't know that he would have been better than gallimore was coming out but I do think he is not as good as OO coming out.

HOWEVER The really interesting part of this whole issue is you got a coach on D saying who he liked and it did not line up with who they took. The Ironic thing is that this Coach was the player the Cowboys were getting ready to draft one year as the scouts had him high on the board until one of the D coaches at that time told the scouts and team that he was not the style of DT they wanted for their scheme and it caused the whole drama that played out im the war room, on camera where they traded out of the pick and then took C Fredbeard.

Just kind of ironic imo.

Shariff Floyd is already unhappy? Meh... whatever. This happens all the time in this league with staffers and assistants. Its not a deal breaker. He will get over it and likely fall in luv with this new kid. Lacy wasn't nearly as ready as Fehoko.

He never said he preferred picking Lacy over Fehoko in the 4th round. They asked him if there was anyone else he was looking at for the remaining picks and he said Lacy was already gone and that was his guy. He was even asked if there was debate about picking between Fehoko and Lacy in the 4th round and he said no.

The first 11 minutes of that 12 minute segment was Floyd talking about what a good player Fehoko is and how excited he is to work with him. He implied that Fehoko was more NFL ready than Fehoko and that Fehoko would definitely be part of the rotation this season.

Ignore the fan boys butthurt about our coach clearly saying the 3 tech he wanted was Lacy.

It's there. Listen for it. Lacy was his guy, the war room preferred Fehoko and with Lacy picked right after it doesn't matter now.

As much as I like and trust Quinn, and am damn happy to still have him, I’m not sure I want him influencing draft picks after the Nashon Wright total throwaway in the 3rd per his advice.

People go nuts over comp picks, and the one time we lost a player that returned one of significance, that’s who we took.
The Wright pick made zero sense.

Try it from another angle. Nashon Wright lacks the skillset to start at the NFL level. Where is the reasoning to take him at all?

Marinelli was similar in that he was great at coaching, but terrible at picking players.

You cant come in here and just crap on an agenda-driven narrative like that bro.

Didn’t hear where he said he preferred Lacy. Said they liked his character and off the field demeanor but the guys taken before him had traits they like better. Please tell me what minute mark to start listening to for his “preference”. Thanks!

I don't think it's as big of a deal as you're trying to insinuate. Look at the guy's tape and go look at Lacy's. It's debatable who'll be the better player. If you look really hard and use your imagination some, Coach, Fehoko might have a higher ceiling than Lacy. ****NOT-AN-OFFICIAL-SOURCE*** had a pretty good segment on Fehoko. His channel is a lot better when he focuses the show on Cowboy-specific issues, and just talks football.

How many 3Ts have they had in the last few years vs. how many 1T's?

I think drafting a guy who can and does play mostly 1T is a refreshing change of pace...

I remember having some interest in us drafting Melifonwu. Thought he was an intriguing player.
