Assuming the draft falls roughly as has been mocked

Except one or two of Mike Williams, Corey Davis or OJ Howard has slipped to 28, what do you do?

So there's no Barnett there at 28 or even Watt or one of the top CBs or Peppers. They are all off the board.

You are left with guys like Harris, McKinley, Bowser, and the "second" grouping of CBs.

I can't say I'd be disappointed if we took one of the three offensive players.

If OJ Howard is there (I would be shocked), it is a no-brainer.

It would be a tough decision to take either of the WRs over Harris but, I presume they are both ranked higher than him. I guess my order of preference in this scenario would be:

- OJ Howard
- Harris
- Trade down to hopefully take the last of the three listed DEs
- WR

I think CB is deep enough that you can wait until the 2nd or 3rd round unless a top tier guy falls.

It's not popular, but I wouldn't take Howard if he was there at 28, or either of the receivers.

That's no knock on any of them as a player, just that I think need has to be a factor too.

This team has at least two, and in most opinions, three significant needs, all of them on defense. And you would have a hard time convincing me that there wouldn't be a single player of comparable ability to fill one of those needs.

To me, it's no doubt O.J Howard. Guy has off the charts athleticism but is also a very good blocker. He could give Witten some blocking relief in the run game and would be a matchup nightmare for defenses. Red zone offense would be nearly unstoppable. Go 11 personnel with Dez and Howard spread out wide and Beasley in the slot. No defense can cover all that.

Howard is one of the best talents in this draft, including all positions...IMO, he is a top 5 guy, just hard to take him that high since he is a TE...at 28???? no brainer...I would also be ok with Njoku if he is there (I see Howard lasting to 12 at the most, won't get by Cleveland's 2nd pick, and the I think the Giants take Njoku at 23 (or wherever they pick in front of us)

If howard is there call up Cleveland take there 2nd and 3rd and 5th. Yes it's a ransom but if they get a QB with 12 Howard would be huge for them.

If Cleveland is willing to give that up, then yeah, I'd make that deal. If not, I'd just take Howard.

Instead of the 3rd I would want both there 2nds. Saying that there's a 1% chance he is there. Looking at it from the browns viewpoint you get Garrett, Mitch or Watson and than possibly the best tight end to come out in 10 years. Yeah they would easily win the draft.

Witten may have signed an extension but I understand there was no guarenteed money, and he was iffy about coming back this year. Wouldnt shock anybody if this was his last year. Some say wait til next year to draft a TE but having stuff miraculously fall to you when you need it doesnt always happen. Remember TE is a huge part of this offense and the QB is going into his second year.

My preferences in that scenario would be:

1. O.J. Howard
2. Jordan Willis if he's available
3. Charles Harris
4. Josh Jones or Marcus Williams

No it wouldn't. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it and nit bet against the Hall of Famer. And I think the team has learned it's lessons too.

Maybe not next year. In a deep draft for TE's a team can afford to wait.

Remember TE is a huge part of this offense and the QB is going into his second year.

Witten is a huge part of this offense, but I'm not sure that "TE" is. They've used three 2nd round picks for the other guys to not see the field. Other than Witten, everybody else is a role player.

The team has Swaim and Gathers waiting in the wings. And if you believe the claims, the former TE coach thinks pretty highly of that kid.

Garrett, Tribusky, and Howard would do a great deal to improve that team.

Always Best Tier Available. For example, I feel certain that Corey Davis is at least 1 tier above Bowser on the Cowboys board. If the player is a tier above, then it's an automatic pick or look for a trade, IMO.

I'm not sold on any DE in this draft other than Garrett. Even Barnett has a lot of concerns to me. I like Harris, Bowser, McKinley, etc.. to some extent, but I don't love the idea of spending a 1st on any of them.

There have been DEs in previous years that went in the 2nd and 3rd that I liked better than anybody that will be available at #28. I was certain that Frank Clark and Danielle Hunter would be good players. I just don't feel that certain about any of these guys. I see good attributes to all of them, but I just can't find one that I'm sold on.

One player that I'm sold on is CB Chidobe Awuzie.

Howard

McKinley
Davis
WIlliams

Honestly, I'd be tempted by Cam Robinson, even.

I agree. Not only is the draft lacking edge blue chippers after Garrett, but there are plenty of 2nd/3rd tier guys. How much better are the guys we can grab at 28 than the guys we'll be looking at at 60? I hope the draft room as a good answer for that, but I don't. Are Willis, Basham, Lawson and Rivers really that far behind guys like Takk, Watt and Harris? I even like a few guys in the 3-4th round range--Kpassagnon and Smoot.
