At what point does the head coach go to the DC to make changes during a game?

No professional offensive-background head coach is going to undermine his new defensive coach during his first game.

The damage it would do to the players, the coaching staff, etc. would basically end the season before it started.

My guess is Schottenheimer will voice his opinions and advice during coaches meetings during the week but will let his defensive coaches work on fixing the problem especially during games.
Exactly You don't need to be like Bill Cower or some of the other coaches who got into faces and pushed players and spit on them by accident while they were yelling on him LOL Sometimes you do it in private you don't embarrass adults You you call them into meetings you do it at practice closed practices closed meetings behind closed doors i'm sure he's been talking to them about the problems..

I don't think people give BS enough credit because they don't think he deserved a job but that doesn't mean he's not doing things behind the scenes because he's not blasting players at press conferences and blasting coaches at press conferences it is unnecessary to embarrass adults These are adults that make a lot of money to also do their job well so all he can do is behind the scenes address his concerns and that's about it.

Again, no...it's not undermining, it's coaching. Its not personal and it's not meant for thin skinned individuals. Its winning and it's job security. If je can help win, he needs to do his job and not worry aboit feelings getting hurt

This is an excellent point in not undermining the new DC in front of the men. Discretion is best.

There's been reports that Schottenheimer actually sent a Western Union telegram to Parker during those 4 consecutive plays the Giants ran on him but it was sent COD and Parker didn't have the cash on hand to cover it.

I'd reveal the source on the network that reported it but I couldn't bear another 1 day in the cyber-pokey

We saw how bad things were, at what point during the game would it have been right for shotty to go to Parker and say hey, let's make some adjustments? Or does he fill the need to let him learn on his own? How should this be approached??
I read that Schotty was going to play an active role on the D as well this year.....

No offensive head coach is going to undermine his first year defensive coach during the first game of the season.

The damage that would do to the respect and leadership of the defensive coach would basically make him useless the entire season as any defensive player would know they don't have to listen to him and could just go to the head coach.

No offense, but this isn't high school football. These coaches are making millions of dollars and coaching adults, not kids, who are making even more than them and many of them have contracts with guaranteed money.

Not going to happen. Need to trust his DC to do his job at this point.
I am sure they had meetings about what they plan to do. As normal.

Embarrass? That wasn't the question....no need to act like an idiot to make your point. Every HC should be there to help his coordinators on or off the field. Every coordinator does the same with his assistants. Most screaming and ripping on the field is done on the headsets. Every coach does it. Fans don't see it, because they are watching the game, live or on TV

At any point he wants. He should have done it last week. Problem is, he's to worried about calling plays
Come on man I think more highly of you to think that behind the scenes at halftime or at any point without the camera watching that he didn't go to Parker with concerns are you telling me you think he just completely ignored it because he was worried about the offense I don't believe that at all I believe you can only say so much to another man another adult other than hey it needs to get better but you can't go through a whole new game plan during a game..

You gotta roll with your game You make some adjustments if something is working well you do it more something is not working well you know as a coach you just scrap it but you really don't have time to be up the rear ends of everyone of your assistants and their assistance that is just how it works in a game it's there's not enough time to stop and figure it all out unless you have a time machine with a pause button on it..

Yes there are moments I'm sure that if you see something that may help your defense you go over and you tell him hey I think this could work or II see what's not working But Christian Parker was hired to run the whole defense I realize the head coach has some responsibility of that but you delegate so you can focus on other parts of the game and yes he's also an offensive coordinator but as we saw with Sean Mcvey his offense and defense didn't look good last week does that mean he didn't care and he didn't try to make adjustments?

His team looked like garbage the whole game and I didn't see any changes they lost and they were the lowest scoring team in the NFL isn't that his side of the ball But they also played bad on defense isn't that his responsibility we can do that with Sean Payton and the other Harbaugh I get them mixed up I don't know who Jim or John is I really don't I really don't care I'm just saying there were sixteen teams that lost and I'm sure they were hoping they made some better adjustments but Oh yeah Dan Campbell had that workout His defense was horrible I thought he was this big rah rah guy that got in your face and told you how it was well how come he didn't tell his defensive coordinator to get it right because they never did They gave up 41 points.

You do make a valid point :D
Well if we're going to be mired in reality get the pun but let's not use that school but yeah there might be a couple Texas high schools that could have maybe scored once on our defense but I doubt that they would all been crippled I hate when people use those analogies if it's supposed to be funny but those kids would have been absolutely all out by half time with broken legs and arms and concussions and they would have never been able to deal with it so let's just keep it real..

No one is expecting to ever see a high school team compete in a real game against a professional team.

It was obviously (well to most people) a joke and that is likely why a high school team was used in thinking no one would take it serious and respond like you did.

So you agree with me. A HC should do this, it's harder to do if he's busy with the offense. And Parker was hired to coach the defense, we also have an OC, but does he coach the entire offense? BTW a HC is hired to coach the ENTIRE team. The DC, even Parker answers to him. At least, he should. And, he shouldn't worry about when or when he does it. Cameras on or off, screws that. This is football, do whatever it takes

You did see that I know that he was being funny but I hear those analogies all the time and I just don't find them funny anymore...

I understand his duties as a head coach, but coordinators are supposed to work independently without constant oversight, that’s what delegation is. It’s no different than a corporation; you can’t have your hands in everything. You rely on your management team and all the departments to do their jobs.

So, tell me, where did he fail to do this? Show me where he didn’t.

I think that’s the disconnect between some people here and the real world, you don’t know what happened behind the scenes, and it’s none of our business. They handle these matters professionally, without embarrassing each other. This isn’t 80s or 90s football, when players were pushed, arguments broke out, and coaches fought in front of everyone, humiliating their players.

Many teams now keep things private because they’re paying these adults like millionaires, and they have the right to private conversations. Still, with the saturation of social media, every little thing eventually gets out.

Most of this should be kept in-house, and we shouldn’t hear about him giving advice or having a talk with Parker or anyone else on the team. That’s between them, and it should stay that way, no one needs to feel embarrassed.

I’m sure they’re under a lot of pressure and they understand their mistakes. You don’t know that he didn’t talk to him at halftime or during the game when a lot was going on; maybe the cameras just didn’t catch it. Assuming he didn’t because the issue wasn’t fixed isn’t fair—maybe the players just couldn’t get their assignments right, and it had nothing to do with the coaches. It’s on the players, and I’m sure they all feel some accountability and are trying to get it right. Sometimes you just don’t have the personnel to run your scheme, and they’re working on it.

It's under construction..lol

You know ,a work in progress,

I think Parker's truly as shocked as most but there was just some busted assignments they have to figure out if he got the depth chart right he probably didn't he needs to know whether he needs to take some reps away from the original number ones and make them number twos and vice versa who gets more playing time that is going to be worked out by hopefully Game 4 or 5 we will know where the true holds and the problems are with this team and whether it's coaching or not.

That's my gut feeling is when they looked at the roster they made up the depth chart and they don't want to do any major reshuffling but they are taking hard looks at all that film and finding out who would be better fit for certain game plans and when they're calling out the defensive alignments who might be better than the ones they chose before game 1..

I remember a time when a lot of people around here said that Jerry talks too much that the coaches reveal too much they don't keep enough under their shirt but maybe it's fine that way I don't think we need to know everything Ranch.. I want to make an assumption that they are working hard to do this and that even during the game some things were said and that's all you can do that is why you have to have such a huge coaching staff is because there is no way that the head coach can have his hands and everything personally..

Week 1 which is essentially a preseason game and everyone is up in arms lmao. It’s true what they say about Cowboys fans, it must be the ones from Texas they talking about smh.
