Being a HC of falcons is like stepping down from OC of Cowboys.

not really, unless he finds a qb, he'll fail and be looking for another job. all garrett has to do is outlast philips and he'll have a qb waiting for him.

I agree, I don't think Jason has enough experience to turn around a franchise that is hitting rock bottom, or at least close to it. I also think Jason is smart enough to realize that he is not ready for a HC gig now and already has the Cowboys HC position locked up and will take over in the next 1-3 years. At lease i hope that's the case.

Money isn't everything. The pain a HC will go through within that organization may not be worth it.

He should stay away from that Trainwreck, if he takes that job, he'll be fired in 2 or 3 seasons.

I think the most telling about all this came from his Dad who said"he will not take a head coaching job untill he is sure he is ready".Now he is a smart guy but you have to wonder if his amount of time coaching has prepared him enough to handle ALL that entails a head coach position. It's hard to know what someone means from quotes in an interview but I felt like his Dad was hinting that maybe Jason knows he has not arrived at this point in his career.I think with a few years under Wade he can learn more about how to run a defense and the ins and outs of a head coach.Of course it's always easy to read into things that get you the result you would like.I would like to have Red around for a long time and eventually become the modern day Tom Landry. Not so much as coaching style but in tenure. That oppurtunity is there for that to come to fruition. We shall see.

Jason Garrett has money.

I think hes looking at quality more than just jumping on the 1st job that he is asked to take.

I'd be shocked if he took the Atlanta job.

They are a sinking ship that has not completely sunk.

Asking permission to interview him doesn't mean he is #1 on their list, just that he is on the list. They have to get that interview in during the bye week or they will never get it in time. Also, we need to wait and see Garrett's response. I think he should interview because its good experience but he may just tell them no thank you.

The HC positions that are open so far are for teams who lack a QB. The front offices for these teams are in disarray as well. Even though Miami is clearly taking steps to correct their front office woes, their overall personnel and QB picture is pretty bad. Garrett will have to decide if striking while the iron is hot is better when the situation resembles a frying pan vs fire tradeoff for each of these teams.

Overall, IMO neither situation seems attractive for Garrett in the near term but other offers may emerge. We'll see.

i believe so, if they are under contract. However, if the position that is offered is a step up compared to the current position, then i don't think you can deny permission.

FYI, this is just my opinion based on my very limited knowledge of the rules. I'm sure someone else can answer the question with more authority:)

No - all coordinators are free to pursue a head coaching job.

I'm really starting to question Blanks ability to run a football team. Maybe he should go back to Home Depot full time. That franchise is starting to fall apart too. Heading into snow season they have not had snow blowers or Ice for a month here Northeast.

Jason may be smart enough to turn this all down and concentrate on a SB. Thats what gets him future value.

No,
a coordinator is free if the move is a promotion to head coach or GM in this case.

...any upward move cannot be denied. A lateral can be rejected.

For management staff, they are not bound by any regulation from the league. Those are deemed similar to personal services contracts and are bound only by the letter of the contract between the owner and the staff member.

JJ can't stop Ireland even if he wanted to. JJ has to allow Garrett to explore upward possibilities.

The best is for him to let them both go. It puts a good spin on your management if you allow those under you to pursue their hopes and dreams.

Some day it will come back to you in spades if they are out of work and they remember their time under you fondly.

Also, they may have also groomed someone JJ may be interested in the future. Both would probably be willing to put in a good word about working for JJ and in a small, tight employment situation such as the NFL that may mean something.
