MM, or whomever the Special Teams shot caller is, has already deferred on two 71 yarders earlier this year.

If I am not mistaken, they decided to punt in a Dome Stadium with nothing to lose by going for the FG. I want to say both opportunities were in good conditions and choosing to take the FG, good or bad, had no serious implications on the games outcome.

I can kind of understand not wanting to give the other team the ball at our 47 yard line if things were high stakes...but the two opportunities they have passed on didnt seem to be big deals at all.

No that puts the line of scrimmage at your own 45. Then add 7 yards to tee it up and you're kicking from your own 38.

The way the football pops when he kicks it is pretty crazy. He’s got the leg to get it there from 70+ if everything goes right.

The way they lose is if it is short and it is returned. The field goal team is full of guys that don't cover well and it can be returned for td.

There are a lot more guys making super long kicks these days, but Aubrey seems the lead dog in the conversation for ultra-long.

But reality? There simply aren't many situations where you want to try a 60+ yard field goal. Less than 3 seconds left...End of half...End of game scenarios mostly. That, or a team is going outside competitive goals... just to make a story.

Do hope B.A. gets a shot to make history. But I'll be bummed if he makes history in a meaningless situation.

To build him a stronger NFL experience base. But they better give a real game opportunity shortly, this level of striking focus won't last for ever. Give him his chance now. He should be a good kicker what ever goes down stream from here.

Absolutely! Any remaining game with good conditions he should be given multiple tries until he gets the record.

One thing to keep in mind is that kickers test their distance limit inside the stadium before every game.

When he says, "72 yards" he is referring to his maximum kick distance if everything is perfect.

The weather can be a little more or less humid, the temperature can be warmer or colder, etc. and that will impact the football and the potential distance.

That is why kickers test their distance limits right before the games so the team knows the probability statistics of various ranges for that specific game in that specific stadium situation.

My guess is that in those games where they turned down opportunities to attempt long field goals his maximum kick distance pre-game was less than those distances or at least less accurate at those distances.
