Did Dilfer just admit ESPN bias against Cowboys?

By dcfanatic, October 19, 2009 4:43 pm

This one is for the fans out there who say they have given up on watching ESPN because the 'Worldwide Leader in Sports' hates the Cowboys...

Trent Dilfer on The Herd with Colin Cowherd

The Cowboys didn't even lose to the Chiefs and they faced more criticism from that game then the Eagles will face from an actual loss to the Raiders.

It's funny to me. But I know some fans get all bent out of shape about it.

I think it has more to do with ESPN just wanting to talk about the Dallas Cowboys all day every day because it sells.

Dallas gets ESPN interest. Of course they're going to mix in whatever controversy they can drum up, one way or the other.

Dilfer's a huge Romo fan.

I'm not sure ESPN even denies a baised point of view. Negative news about the Cowboys gets them ratings and makes them money. I don't listen to them much because they aren't very good.

Money > Professionalism. And not a single person here would turn down huge dollars in exchange for being nice.

As the one poster who made the thread where he talked to Rick Reilly, an employee of ESPN, they love to hate us because Cowboys talk draws in the people, but NEGATIVE Cowboys talk really draws them in.

I'll take Reilly's word over Dilfer's because Reilly is a seasoned professional sports writer who knows the deal. That and it's true.

Another reason why I don't watch BSPN anymore is that it's sensationalist, homeristic crap. I haven't watched any BSPN pre-game or post-game stuff or any of the shows this season because I have the NFLN now. But last week, I turned over to the MNF pre-game and for 5 minutes I saw more goofy sensationalism, guys being homer for their former teams, and guys trying to get themselves over instead of the league and the players over than I have in roughly 2 months of watching the NFLN.

And what's great is that Irvin and Deion have never sounded better now on the NFLN. At ESPN they would come off as annoying and obnoxious. It's fun to watch.

Puppets and ho's, that's what mostly inhabits that company.

"Did Dilfer admit ESPN's bias"? Absolutely. I heard it live. The truth is the truth and it was an excellent point.

I also want to hear how Philly handles the infamous "time out-no timeout". Our media crucified Tony because they thought he didn't know the down. McNabb obviously didn't know.

I think maybe Dilfer is too new to realize he probably isn't suppose to say that, but I'm glad he did. He called out Chris Carter and other "analysts" during the NFL draft when the question was brought up if we are a better team without T.O., Pacman, and Tank. And Chris Carter said no, we lost too much talent. Dilfer came right back and said, "Wait, didn't we say they had to get rid of all of those distractions to get better, and they did, and now they aren't better for it?" It was the first time I have ever heard an analyst get called out on what they have previously said. It was almost like Dilfer went "Daily Show" on him and caught him backtracking. I applaud Dilfer for saying that, because he is completely, 100% right, and wasn't afraid to say it. In 2008, we didn't start 0-5 after our 13-3 season, yet you don't hear squat about Tennessee. Now I know the almighty dollar talks the loudest, but you can't say you have the best analysis and coverage when you'd rather spend all your time and resources commenting on the cowboys clubhouse laundry boy. Dilfer has been earning major points with me, and he has gotten to the point with me that I know what he says is what he thinks, and not shoved down his throat through the teleprompter. I tell everyone that we are still America's Team because either you love us or you hate us. But what ESPN does is strictly hate. I firmly believe that even if we win a super bowl, they would rather focus on a false start penalty at the end of the game while we're taking a knee.

"I'm here at the Super Bowl, where I talked to an unnamed source that told me that he was very disappointed in Flozell Adams' false start penalty at the end of the game. While the Cowboys were up by 10 points, he felt that it could have cost them the game in the last 23 seconds. For ESPN, I'm Ed Werder."
