Emmitt got blasted because he made a ridiculous prediction. He was wrong, so how does that make any of them ashamed?

come on zoners, emmitt smith loves the cowboys, he will try to be truthful and what he thinks;

if you noticed most writers wouldnt give you what they thought how the cowboys would do in wins and losses till later in the year

emmitt just said what he thought based on early observation

no one even bothered to ask him what he thought after mid season on wins and losses

exactly, thats what emmitt was doing, just basing on what he thought early in the year, till the cowboys and wade proved otherwise

I can understand his explanation but then I have to question why didn't he give this explanation during the offseason? I do think the negative remarks from older Cowboys has sort of rallied this team together. Sort of a "Me against the World" attitude.

8-8 is not a winning record. Anyone stating that the team will finish 8-8 or below is also saying that the team will not have a winning record. Stating that the team will finish 9-7 or above demonstates that person believes that the team will finish with a winning record. [EDIT] In essense, an 8-8 finish would be a great prediction for someone solely predicting a 7-9 finish, but it is a terrible prediction should the team finish 9-7 or above.

Granted, nothing is for certain. The team could finish 8-8. It could finish 13-3. It could finish 12-4, 11-5, 10-6 or 9-7. What will eventually happen is destined to someday become reality and that's always a totally separate topic. When someone makes a prediction, it's only what he or she believes will happen that is questionable or debatable.

One last note: making an all-inclusive prediction that a team will finish just above .500 AND at AND just below .500 basically means you don't feel that the team will not finish above .500, but that you are hedging your bets just in case they do end up with a winning record.
