Onkyo is an iconic Japanese audio brand known for its Hi-Fi amplifiers, AV receivers and loudspeakers. Since its founding in Osaka after WWII, the company has pioneered cutting-edge technology, setting the standard for sound quality. Innovation, legendary models and industry influence have all made Onkyo a symbol of high sound. This video gives a full overview of the company's history, its rise and falls, its technological advances and its place in the world of hi-fi.

My first CD Player was an Onkyo. It had a stereo Headphone jack, so I listened to the few CDs I had at the time through the player, until I got a Receiver (Not an Onkyo... A Budget Receiver).

I love vintage "silver faced" stereo equipment from the 70s. Marantz and Pioneer were probably the most popular but Onkyo, Sansui, and Kenwood offered some great values that performed as well or maybe even better.

JVC had some nice silver faced receivers.

I've seen a few JVC receivers from that era but have never owned one. Yamaha would be another brand that I know very little of. I own a Technics (by Panasonic) SU-7300 integrated amp and ST-7300 matching tuner that was my first stereo purchased in 1977 with lawn mowing money. It performs well, has robust construction, and is easy to work on. Any stereo equipment that is almost 50 years old will have issues. If you have the right tools and some electronics knowledge they are not hard to repair unless they have parts that can't be obtained any more and have no modern direct replacement.

Forgot about Realistic (Radio Shack) - My wife bought a STA-2100 and a set of Mach One speakers when she was single. The only thing I've done is a good cleaning & they perform very well.
