To me whether or not Roy will replace TO is a moot point. In my view, TO is being replaced with RW AND Austin. Roy may or may not meet or exceed TO's production in Dallas but with a healthy Austin and a full off season with Roy/Romo they can do some damage. Along with Witten, Crayton, Bennett and Felix we can potentially have a better passing game than we had two years ago. At the very least, with a more run oriented philosophy this year, i think our starting WRs are more than adequate. What scares me is depth.

That phrase is 'moot' point, btw. Pet peeve.

I have a similar take. Where TO was the center of the offense last year, and the player coordinators, in theory at least, schemed around, this year that role will be filled by Felix and Barber. Roy Williams is the number one WR, but he's not the focal point of the offense, and at best he'll be the co-focal point of the passing game.

He isn't.

We paid the 20th best WR in the league (thats being generous), the richest WR contract in football. We gave up a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round pick for him. How nice would our draft had looked with those picks back?

Roy making excuses and wondering why he's the victim just bolsters my opinion that he's pretty dense.
*yawn*...wake me up when the season starts so I don't hafta read the chicken-littles.....

I suspect Irvin thinks from all he knows about RW that RW simply isn't a hard worker, a grinder and he knows you can't succeed long term in the NFL if you aren't a hard worker.

That's why I think Irvin is "worried" about RW.
Thank you for your concern Irv, it's been noted...NEXT...

We would be worse off, because we would still not have a legitimate WR, or the potential of any. There was not a WR in this draft that could come in and do what RW can give this team this year. And IF there was a WR available, it usually takes a WR a few years to make a true impact.

His time in Detroit was a hell. Think of Randy Moss in Oakland. He actually quit. Roy actually played and caught the ball.

Hanging Roy based on his time in Detroit is unreasonable.

To add: We only need Roy to do his part. Witten does his part. Barber and Felix and everything else falls into place.
Well, the parts need better defining from Garrett...

Witten will lead the team in recepetions.

Miles Austin will be our most explosive WR next year, I look forward to Roy moving the chains and doing his stupid first down dance a lot, nothing more nothing less.
That is all we need from Roy. We have the weapons to take care of the rest.

Alright, let's hear it. How " nice " would it have looked ? Who would you have selected with those picks ?

If Roy can pick up first downs and move the chains on 3rd and 7 then I think he's worth every penny. He's probably the best "in traffic" WR out there today. Get him working on his strengths..slants and curls. Not to mention he's a pretty good goal line WR..he'll probably get 4-5 TD's inside the 10 by just his leaping and height alone.

Signing Roy Williams was about the most counter productive move for a Super Bowl I've ever seen..

Wow.. If that's the case, then you've been living under a rock in the Atacama Desert all your life.

In my opinion, people, from ex-Cowboy players such as Irvin to fans, are commenting about Roy Williams and effectively positioning themselves within one of two camps.

Camp A believes that Roy Williams is essentially the wide receiver who played half the season last year. Irvin and others falls firmly within this camp. It makes him nervous and, in essense, he states that he doesn't believe that Williams can play well for a winning football team.

Camp B believes that Roy Williams is basically the wide receiver who starred at the University of Texas and played very well for a very bad football franchise in Detroit for 4½ seasons.
Don't forget Camp C, whose BFF was just shipped out and who are taking out their butthurt on the guy targeted to replace him.

I dont get all the piling on against Roy Williams.

This guy just needs a little time with Romo.

Also, all this negativity towards him could actually hurt our franchise. Seems everyone is in FULL BLOWN destroy mode when it comes to our players.

Let.
Him.
Play.

The way I see it. There is no question Roy can play. There are in my mind two questions about him. First, will he bring the effort every play and two. Will he continue to have injuries.

Roy in my mind is like Plaxico. If he wants the ball. It is his. He has to want it on every play though. I think he is THAT talented.

As for the injuries... Well, he must work harder off the field, and I think that can help prevent the injuries.

Hmm, maybe. Though I think Roy (barring injury) will have the most receiving yards and receiving TDs.

This is true and yet the players dont get enough blame when people talk about Garrett. If you look at last season we were a play made here or a play made there from sustaining drives and changing the flow/outcome of games. So I cant hang too much on Garrett.

This is spot on.

My concerns with Roy are: His threw Romo under the bus a few times last year(ie. I am not the one throwing the ball etc) and his injuries. If he and Romo sync up = all is well.

I dont buy into the notion that Dallas is suddenly forced to become a grind it out offense because TO is gone. What this team was lacking last year was balance on offense. They need to get everyone involved in the running game and passing game. There are too many weapons on this team to focus on one thing, whether that one thing is getting TO the ball or running it. Spread em out and make em cover the whole field.

I dont think you just decide, hey we are going to be a running team now. It doesnt work that way.

I agree. I will say to be a balanced offense we will have to run the ball more than we have. I don't think we have to be run on 1st, 2nd and pass on 3rd I think you mix it up as you try and keep the defense off balance.

Exactly.

But no, it's "hate" or an "ax to grind" per some of the comments in this thread. He's got an agenda!
