Audio: Round One: Bob Sturm vs Troy Aikman!

Well, I am one of those that says we need to pass the ball more....

Because, I think you need to get Romo into the rythm of the game early and then go from there. I think he is a better QB when you do that. I don't think he gets into a rythm if you run the ball heavy early. Why? I don't know, that is what it seems to me after watching him for 3 years.

With that I think we need to get the RB's more involved in the passing game also.

You'd be wrong on both these points.

Cowboys average 26.2 rushing and 32.6 passing attempts a game.
Chargers average 26.1 rushing and 31.8 passing attempts a game.

And yes, Brees, Brady, Manning and Rivers spend a lot of time in the shotgun formation.

But hey, perception is reality correct?

26.2 + 32.6 = 58.8 plays a game. Missing .2

26.1 + 31.8 = 57.9 plays a game. Missing .1

Wonder where the 10th's of a play went? Weird stats.

Teams aren't all averaging a round number, because there's been more than one week of football.

Troy is a sharp football mind and I love what the guy did for us here but there is little doubt he is a Jason Garrett homer. Nothing wrong with that either but Garrett's play-calling has at a few times been questionable here.

I am fairly certain even Garrett's wife (of throw the ball up high to Alvin Harper fame) would agree questions can be asserted when we pass almost solely.

Garrett may well prove that backing him is a smart move long term and everyone is going to make questionable calls over time but Troy should just own that he is willing to give Garrett the benefit of the doubt because he knows he is a true football brain.

I think the gist of your notes here are accurate but we have to avoid averages as a meaningful stat. As a business analyst I have learned tossing averages about is just bad:)

It would be far more interesting to see those outliers where the "balance" didn't exist. More of a pie chart style 5% and 90th% metric. Those are issues where Garrett draws scorn. Norv has a ton more experience so probably hears less criticism though he is hardly immune in other areas beyond play-calling.

SD started really, really slowly (again) and I am not sure I'd say that offense was the same one we are seeing now that they are playing well.

I can tell you they were out-rushed by Oakland pretty easily week 1 and while they won it was a toss up game all day that they won by only 4 against an awful team.

you can pass out of the shotgun all you want if you have quick routes.

And Troy definitely put on a clinic!

I'm one of the biggest Garrett supporters on the board, but even I will say that this offense needs more shorter routes with potential for YAC.

I was waiting for Troy to say "hang on Bob, I have to switch hands, it's hard to hold the phone for too long with the hand with three rings on it..."

Troy Aikman is a hall of fame player and a top 5 NFL analyst.

He has the NFL IQ of an Einstien. He knows today's NFL game. It's called pass the frikkin rock. Sturm never played a single down of football at Bob Jones University--or for that matter at ANY level.

Sturm is desperately trying to cover for his patent ignorance.

Good gawd we gotta get the dinosaurs like Choc Lab to listen to Troy Aikman talk about the changes in the game over the past 10 years.

Truly LISTEN.

Remind us again what Superbowl Champ in the last 10 years threw the ball 60% of the time in their winning season.
