Terence Newman is turning into the new Terrell Owens before our very eyes folks. He just can't seem to avoid microphones these days.

Newman called into The Ben and Skin Show today to clear up this mini-story that's being thrown around in the media right now...

Newman on Ben and Skin

When Ben asked Newman if Jessica was mad at him or at Tony I literally yelled out BINGO!

Terence Newman is a walking contradiction. He says that people shouldn't talk about Romo's personal life and the reason he's even doing this interview is because he was in fact talking about Romo's personal life.

You know that the big story that is going to be floating around about this interview is that Jessie is now mad at Newman.

I want to bang my head off the wall right now!

Now he's going to keep away from the media. GOOD! Some people know what and when to say some things in the media and I think Terence Newman has proven over the last year that he is not one of these people.

And I don't think Newman was bashing Romo in any way in that original interview. When I blogged about it on March 9th I barely mentioned the comments about Romo and Jessica because I understood what Newman was saying, but it's up to Newman to figure out that he's talking too much these days.

Terence Newman isn't a bad guy and he's a great player. So now that he's becoming known more for his 'controversial' interviews it's a shame. And the problem can easily be solved - just don't talk as much and when you do use the term 'no comment' every now and then because it's your right to do so.

I really wish Newman would run these ideas of speaking publicly by Bobby Carpenter...our seasoned spokesperson.

Newman is trying to get more endorsements...

He will be doing an ESPN tour again this year just like he did last offseason.

He has already stated in the past that he would welcome a career in the media when he's done playing football.

TNew is a good guy despite all the bashing he has taken the last few days.

But someone needs to tell him he would be better off keeping quiet sometimes.

Newman called out his teammates at the end of 2006 for talking too much, then proceeded to play a dreadful game.

He then did it again this year.

He complained about his teammates again, and called an unnamed teammate a "coward".

And recently, he said whatever it was anyone wants to spin that he said about Romo, while taking a shot at his coaches.

He just doesn't get it.

Huh?

Oh wait, I was referring to Newman.

He's the one who will be doing the tour.

Carpenter could be doing one too as he also did one last offseason.

AdamJT13 said it best in another thread. The Dallas media (DMN, Ect...) does't act like typical media in NFL cities. Other NFL players give interviews (like on local TV stations) and don't get misrepresented or misinterpreted.

Terence Newman isn't the bad guy here. The DMN and NFL Network are the bad guys. They are the two entities that look foolish. Newman shouldn't be getting heat. They should. Tony Romo was the target. Terence Newman was just collateral damage, and they seem to like attacking him, too.

DC,

I know you don't like players talking, but it is unrealistic to ask them to not talk.

Normal NFL cities/players can give and do a TV interview and not have this stuff happen.

Don't blame the player, blame the DMN and NFL Network.

Newman just reinterated how the media used Romo's personal life to attack him while defending Tony Romo. He did nothing wrong while he defended a teammate.

What did the DMN do?

They took a two week old non-story and used it to attack Tony Romo.

Guys, other NFL players give interviews. They just don't have jackals like the some of the writers at the DMN.

in a way you're right but than again that player is a 31 year old man who has seen 1st hand what the Dallas media does for the last 5 or 6 years. they all should know better by now.

Should the players be scared to address the media, out of fear of yellow journalism? Should they let the media dictate their behavior.

This should have been a harmless TV interview (again, a two week old non-story), but the DMN tried to spin it against Tony Romo. The NFL Network picked up on it and played right along. They (NFL Network) should be embarrassed. They are in ESPN land now.

A player shouldn't turn down a requested interview, just because JJT or the NFL Network might resort to yellow journalism.

You can't live your life in fear.

Newman defends Romo, defends him, and he gets this.

Only in Dallas.

I don't understand why they continue to talk to the media with so much detail. every time they do it the media spins it in a negative way. either stop talking to them or give them 1 or 2 word answers.

NO, they should not fear the media in Dallas.

But they should be a little more savvy in dealing with them by now.

I have already said Newman's comments weren't that bad, but he knows the Dallas media can switch it up on him. So why give them anything to twist into a juicy headline.

Ellis, Romo, Newman and Owens in some form or fashion gave them some ammo on some issues in the past. Others may have too, but those four come to mind right now.

Jason Witten don't bite. MBIII don't bite. Bradie James don't bite.

Some guys give the 'ho hum' answers and they don't have to follow up one interview with nine more explaing what they meant in the first one.

I think Newman should stick to his word and give the media a break for a while.

He said that he isn't talking anymore, so you might get your wish. If you go into a shell, the media wins. However, I don't blame him. This interview had nothing to do with the DMN or NLF Network. As far as spin goes, this goes way beyond mere "spin". It's yellow journalism. The media isn't going away, and running from them or letting yellow journalistic hacks dictate your behavior gives them a victory.

Do you want your team to run at the first sign of something bad, or do you want them to stand up and defend themselves and other teammates?

I want players with courage, like Terence Newman, who will stand up and defend teammates from the attacks by the media.

As far as "talking in detail", Newman answered the question. Like the radio host said in this post, the question had at least 2 possible paths, as far as the answer is concerened. (Attack Aikman or defend Romo) Newman defended Romo.

Again, Tony Romo is attacked by the media for being a "celebrity", and they (the media) try to use it against him to justify a bad game or games. The media has done that to Romo. Newman simply reinterates this fact, and defends Romo from that perception. He did it again on this radio interview.

A educated person could easily interpret Newman's comments. In fact, it shouldn't take a University of Texas education to interpret or analyze what Newman said.

This is just starting. Tony Romo is the target.

But,

DC,

That is the point. Newman was defending Romo, and he sounded educated and stated his point crystal clear.

The other entities are at fault. Newman didn't give them ammunition.

The hacks just created it.

Who's fault is it? Is the educated guy answering a question clearly and honestly at fault, or are the journalistic entities, acting independently of Newman and going out of their way (on their own accord) to create a story through unethical or sub-par cognitive abilities, to blame?

This is one of the worst hit jobs I've ever seen. Newman is taking the heat, but Tony Romo is the target.

At least Tim Cowlishaw showed some intelligence in this matter.

We'll see how the Cowboys deal with this situation. I would be very upset with the DMN and NFL Network. Punish them, not guys like the TV station guy or the people on the radio.

Maybe TNew figured that being controvertial would help make up for the pro bowls he got cheated out of= with so many stupid fans only voting for players they hear about so much maybe he figures this way he can get even.

Newman needs to learn to keep his mouth shut, Newman started some of the mess last year when he supposedly called Witten a coward!

The players need to learn point blank, I will talk about the next game, or the person I am going up against etc, (however leave no info for bulletin board material for the opposing team), but nothing else will i talk about my teammates or stuff that is in the locker room.
